What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mold Maker position at Antaya Technologies Corp?
· Use cutting-edge manufacturing techniques and machinery (CNC, EDM, 3D printing, etc.) to create complex molds. Oversee all phases from initial concept to final mold production.
· Manage multiple projects, timelines, and resources, ensuring molds are delivered on schedule and within budget while meeting quality standards.
· Select appropriate materials for high-precision molds, including metals, alloys, and composite materials, based on product specifications and desired performance.
· Oversee the entire mold-making process, ensuring molds are created with high precision and perform efficiently in production. Optimize mold designs and manufacturing processes to reduce costs and improve cycle times.
· Work closely with product engineers, manufacturing teams, and other stakeholders to ensure mold designs meet the functional, aesthetic, and manufacturing requirements of the product.
· Proactively identify issues with mold functionality and performance, troubleshoot problems in the mold-making process, and implement solutions to improve quality and reduce downtime.
· Provide guidance and mentorship to junior mold makers and designers, offering expertise in advanced techniques and best practices. Lead training sessions to enhance team skills.
· Stay up to date with industry trends, new technologies, and innovative techniques in mold design and manufacturing. Continuously look for ways to improve mold-making processes and product quality.
· Review maintenance and run history of the tool or mold to determine if any special conditions apply or if change over to a different part is required. Record type and time of maintenance or repair work.
· Generate drawings or sketches needed for the development and manufacturing of tools, dies, fixtures, and single operation tooling for prototype / engineering sample parts.
· Study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies.
· Setup and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as surface grinders, lathes, milling machines, and drill presses to cut, square, grind, drill, tap, or otherwise shape parts to according to plans or drawings.
· Setup pyrometer controls of heat-treating furnaces and feed or place parts, tools, or assemblies into furnaces to harden.
· Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers electronic indicators, and comparators (standard & digital).
· Support Engineering and Tooling from other departments as necessary.
· Lift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables using hoists.
· Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and keep work area clean in accordance with specified rules and regulations.
· Support the plant-wide preventive maintenance program.
· Assist in the training and support of other operators by instructing them with on-the-job requirements.
· Take an active role in the improvement of manufacturing operations including 5S, LEAN, and housekeeping activities.
· Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and keep work area clean in accordance with specified rules and regulations.
· Adhere to EMS and IATF 16949 Policies and Procedures.
· Perform all other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Ability to work effectively with internal/external personnel.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, blueprints, design specifications, correspondence, work orders and production schedules.
Ability to effectively use all machine tools and standard toolroom equipment including grinders, lathers, mills, and drill presses.
Knowledge and application of machining best practices related to work holding, efficiency, safe operation, and tolerance requirements of machined components.
Knowledge and good understanding of tool steels, their application based on properties such as harness, and machining requirements needed.
Knowledge of proper shimming techniques to fit parts when required.
Knowledge of proper use of tool fabricating accessories such as vises, v-blocks, angle plates, and edge/center finders.
Ability to operate hoists.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent; or graduation from a technical/trade school.
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a Tool Maker working in a manufacturing environment.
Must be detail-oriented and have excellent organizational skills.
Must be able to read, write, and speak English proficiently.
Must be proficient with computers.
Must have good basic math skills and the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Must have knowledge of shop math trigonometry.
Proficiency with Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) milling machines a plus.
