Hours: Full-time, occasional evening and weekend work required
Job Summary: The Relative Assessment Worker is responsible for completing initial and final assessment services for Relative/NREFM caregivers who have primary care of children residing with them. The Relative Assessment Worker works closely with families and DCFS to address needs and goals and provide feedback and documentation. The Relative Assessment Worker works closely and collaborates with program Supervisor(s) to manage each client.
Responsibilities and Duties:
The ideal candidate for this position will possess a combination of skills, experience, and passion in the following areas:

Relative Assessment Worker Responsibilities:
- Have thorough knowledge of program goals, objectives, policies and procedures
- Have Knowledge of at-risk, high-risk families experiencing domestic violence, substance abuse, depression, and/or child abuse
- Contact families/caregivers to set up initial interview/assessment within 24 working hours of referral.
- Initiate contract services within five (5) calendar days of each DCFS Relative Home Assessment Services (RHAS) Referral given.
- Complete home assessments which require the families/caregivers to meet specific standards and requirements that can include but are not limited to, home and grounds, outdoor activity space, storage requirements, fire clearance, and capacity determination.
- Must notify Program Manager and/or Associate Director if repeated attempts (twice every other day for 5 calendar days) to contact families/caregivers have failed.
- Document and file all assessments/contacts with families/clients the same day of contact. Must provide feedback and documentation of the RHAS assessment as soon as possible, no later than 45 days of the initial referral received.
- Complete additional appointments and return to home of families/caregivers as needed to perform all RHAS components.
- Work closely and collaborate with DCFS staff on an ongoing and consistent basis to ensure and create a comprehensive network of supportive services for these identified caregivers.
- Complete and chart all notes/documentation in a timely manner that is accurate.
- Be compliant with all training requirements
- Carry out multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Other duties as directed
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred or minimum of 32 completed units from an accredited University, College or Community College, with at least 16 units in Social Work, Social Sciences, Humanities, Public Administration or Public Health
- And/or two (2) years’ experience working in the field of social work, behavioral science or social sciences.
- And/or former relative caregivers previously approved by DCFS or Probation Department for relative placement
- Experience working with culturally diverse communities with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate
- Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Excellent written/oral communication skills
- Demonstrated track record with respect to detail orientation and accuracy
- Must demonstrate excellent skills in Microsoft excel, word, outlook and the ability to learn new data programs
- Attention to detail and accurate.
- Ability to solve problems, find and correct errors.
Required Licensure and/or Certifications:
- Current and maintained CA driver’s license
- Current/maintained auto insurance
- Own transportation for work-related purposes
- Current and maintained infant and adult CPR
- Meet basic health requirements, background check, and physical job standards
- Must have TB clearance
- COVID Vaccine encouraged
Working Conditions:
- Work in flexible settings between the office, remotely/virtual setting and /or in the community
- Working with overburdened, often high-risk families of low economic and varied cultural backgrounds, living in high-risk areas
- Able to maintain HIPAA requirements with confidential information, safely and discreetly, as required, when working in various settings
- This position requires lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs., stooping, bending, squatting, sitting on the floor, walking (may be needed)
