This position is a part of The Anti-Trafficking Project (at:project), a program working directly with victims and survivors of human trafficking in Central Oregon. The position is located in Bend, Oregon. Please see www.jbarj.org for more information regarding The at:project.

The Anti Trafficking Advocate is responsible for engaging and serving victims/survivors of human trafficking in Central Oregon utilizing at:project and J Bar J in-house services, contracts, partner agencies, and other collaborations. The Advocate is also responsible for engaging and serving at-risk adults and youth who have been identified as potential victims of human trafficking with the goal towards self-sufficiency and empowerment. This position provides outreach, crisis response, and case management, as well as continually builds the referral network of options. The Advocate coordinates with victims/survivors to ensure daily needs are met, and assists in developing and working towards therapeutic goals and objectives as defined by the survivor and outlined in their individual treatment plan. This position also participates in collaborative evaluation with at:project Program Manager and staff to assess and enhance program development. They also complete accurate and timely written documentation of services and data collection. The Advocate works with community partners to assist with emergency and crisis response to victims of human trafficking.

This position is a full-time, 40 hours per week position with variable shifts including days, swing, weekends and holidays. This position includes periodic on call responsibilities.

Duties

  • Client advocacy and case management: Provide trauma-informed support to human trafficking / CSEC survivors and other CYFC (runaway, homeless and vulnerable youth) clients that address housing and legal needs, immigration remedies, emergency food, clothing and supplies; relationship building and empowerment of the individual's community; arriving at mutually agreed upon and achievable goals; and referral and coordination with community partners.
  • Crisis intervention: Guide, empower and educate client in achieving safety and recognizing options; provide intensive strength-based, solutions-oriented support; maintain confidentiality; provide on call support on scheduled days to include contact with hospitals; law enforcement; legal team; trafficking victims and their families.
  • Risk assessments and safety planning: Assess each client for issues related to risk of further abuse; provide options in planning for personal safety on an ongoing basis.
  • Outreach: Coordinate with community partners and businesses to provide outreach and awareness on human trafficking to increase victim identification and support services; plan and execute outreach plan/strategy for client-specific outreach; assist with the development and implementation of supportive services as needs and opportunities for expansion arise; and provide agency linkage and awareness support to increase a tri-county/ state-wide response effort.
  • Accompaniment: Provide advocacy and accompaniment during law enforcement interviews, child forensic interviews, forensic medical exams, prosecution interviews, court proceedings, and other community-based and system-based meetings.
  • Indirect services: Attend staffing and other meetings as required; case review and coordination; assist with urgent-response line; maintain client files; attend professional development opportunities; other duties as requested by the program manager.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge, Skills and Ability: Ability to develop an environment where clients can succeed by ensuring the atmosphere and basic supplies for education, work, activities and similar are provided. Ability to effectively facilitate and document individual counseling and groups. Ability to interface effectively with other staff, referring agencies, parents, schools and others and maintain a professional demeanor at all times. Ability to provide crisis intervention to clients and remain calm and in control during crisis situations. Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a team. Demonstrate strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Knowledge regarding issues related to runaway, homeless and street youth; domestic violence; and human trafficking.
  • Experience and Training

-Preferred: Lived experience with human trafficking encouraged to apply. Self-disclosure to the public is not required. Bilingual and bicultural strongly encouraged to apply.

- Or a master’s degree with major study in social work or a closely allied field and one (1) year of experience in the care and rehabilitation of client, or a bachelor’s degree with major study in social work, psychology, sociology or a closely allied field and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in the care and rehabilitation of clients, or equivalent combination of education and experience, Associates Degree with (5) years of experience in the care and rehabilitation through direct client service. Experience working with victims of Human Trafficking, Sexual Assault or Domestic Violence preferred. Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) preferred. Valid Oregon driver license and CPR/1st Aid certification required at time of hire or immediately after hiring.

  • Physical Requirements: While performing the duties for the job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee occasionally is required to use hands or finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
