What are the responsibilities and job description for the La Duchesse Interpreter position at Antique Boat Musuem?
La Duchesse is the Museum’s Gilded Age houseboat that George Boldt once owned and later Andrew McNally III of Rand-McNally Maps. The 100 foot floating home is open to visitors for regularly scheduled guided tours from May through October. Reporting directly to the Curator & Collections Manager, interpreters are responsible for sharing the history of La Duchesse with museum visitors through guided tours. Highly effective interpreters will engage and capture their audience ultimately enhancing the guest experience.
Responsibilities
- Efficiently open and close La Duchesse each day
- Closely interact with the Admissions Team to inform visitors of tour availabilities
- Lead historically accurate tours using interpretive materials developed by the Museum’s Education and Curatorial departments
- Ensure guests are informed of safety precautions while on the tour
- Perform routine cleaning of La Duchesse
- Execute regular inspections of La Duchesse to verify contents
- Have fun and build a joyful spirit which is infectious to all who visit ABM!
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal
- Good interpersonal skills to work with staff, volunteers, and the public with diverse backgrounds, identities, ages and abilities
- Previous tour guide or other museum experience preferred but not required
- Possess and maintain a professional appearance and demeanor
- Must be willing to attend/read training programs and learn through study the history of La Duchesse
- Ability to work weekends and all holidays when the museum is open
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $15.50 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
