Anton Paar QuantaTec manufactures instruments for characterization of powders and porous materials using techniques like physisorption, chemisorption, gas pycnometry, mercury intrusion porosimetry, capillary flow porometry amongst others
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, observe, communicate and handle items such as computers, machinery and other equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
Position requires the ability to obtain a Passport for international travel.

Sr. Strategic Buyer is responsible for the strategic task regarding the purchase of mechanical and/or electronic parts directly associated with Anton Paar’s production. These materials are to be purchased at a competitive cost, from high-quality suppliers with on-time delivery: The Strategic Buyer job duties include:
- Buying mechanical and/or electronic components and systems from domestic and international suppliers
- Complete ownership in delivering results with limited supervision and guidance
- Collaborating closely with the Quality, Research and Development, Planning & Production and Sustaining Engineering teams
- Delivering cost savings, driving strategic negotiations and the development of strategic vendor partnerships.
The Sr. Strategic Buyer will have strong coordination and problem-solving skills. Job duties include:
- Conducting strategic activities related to the purchase process including cost optimization, capacity management, long term agreements, improving supplier performance
- Monitoring and analyzing influences relevant to the purchasing market and taking actions and implementing purchasing strategies based on such analysis
- Communicating and promptly resolving any supply issues, which may pose a risk or impact to business operations
- Managing all facets with suppliers including finding, assessing, selecting and developing suppliers
- Developing and maintaining long-term relationships with key suppliers to support continuous supply with competitive pricing
- Continuous negotiations with key suppliers to ensure best price and service
- Working closely together with Planning, R&D, Quality and Warehousing to ensure purchasing is meeting the needs of different stakeholders
- Consulting with R&D during the development of new instruments to ensure competitiveness of future instruments by eliminating possible future supply issues of components (preventing single source, easier manufacturability, including off-the-shelf components, choosing reliable suppliers etc.)
- Other duties as assigned
The Sr. Strategic Buyer typically requires a combination of education, training, certifications and skills. This role requires the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply management or a technical area (mechanical engineering / mechatronics / industrial engineering) or other related discipline or equivalent years of experience in purchasing environment
- A minimum of 5 years of professional purchasing experience with strong emphasis in strategic decision making
- Proven experience using SAP’s MM module
- Strong negotiations skills
- Proven ability to analyze material demand to determine the most cost-effective supply
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with time restrictions.
- Having great attention to detail
- Experience leading a team and/or leading projects
- Experience with purchasing for scientific instrumentation, new product development and/or R&D
- Experience in purchasing in manufacturing environment
- Technical skills suitable for facilitating technical reviews
