General Summary

Performs a variety of maintenance and repair tasks on County owned facilities and equipment in a manner acceptable to the general health and safety standards of the County.

Wage scale hourly rate from at $18.17 starting to $20.88 per hour.

Employment Qualifications

· High School Graduate or GED Equivalent.

· Math skills necessary to measure chemicals and cleaning solutions

· Reading skills necessary to read instructions, safety materials and government regulations.

· Experience in the maintenance and repair of building and mechanical systems.

· Ability to have a flexible schedule.

Other Requirements

Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license. Must be able to complete and/or pass all Antrim County pre-employment requirements, including but not limited to: employment application, oral interview, reference check, background check, safe driver check, drug screening and employee physical.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • The ability to provide the repair and maintenance of a majority of the listed trades for the County’s facilities:

Plumbing Vehicles Electrical Hardware

Welding Masonry Carpentry Equipment

HVAC

  • Knowledge of building systems and trades
  • Takes instruction from Deputy and Maintenance Director verbally or in writing
  • Responsible for preparation and service necessary for events and activities
  • Personally make routine repairs and/or reports needed repairs to Maintenance Supervisor
  • Clean and maintains work spaces/vehicles in a professional manner
  • Projects a positive image for Antrim County whenever you come into contact with the public, guests, or visitors on or off County property
  • Works closely with Deputy and Maintenance Director to be preparing for scheduled and unscheduled activities
  • Works closely with maintenance team to provide excellent service
  • Maintains work related records and prepare various reports as directed
  • Performs such yard chores as grass cutting, tree trimming, shovel snow and salt walks and drives as needed and waste removal as requested to maintain the grounds in a safe, clean, and attractive condition
  • Repair(if qualified) and report hazardous conditions immediately to the Maintenance Director
  • Repair(if qualified) and report damage to the building or grounds to the Maintenance Director
  • Required use of ladders or man lifts in the course of the daily duties for service work of equipment and fixtures
  • Be on call as needed for emergency repairs, overtime, or special needs falling outside of the normal working hours
  • The ability to complete your daily work
  • All duties and procedures are to be performed within health safety standards as per OSHA and/or MIOSHA
  • Other duties as assigned by the Deputy or Maintenance Director

Tools and Equipment Used

Motorized vehicles for driving and evaluation purposes, power and hand tools/equipment for carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and cement finishing work; operation of mowers, plows, tractors, and snow blowers; mechanics tools needed for minor repairs of lawn and snow equipment; floor buffers, steam cleaners, washers, vacuums, mops, brooms; personal computer, including word processing software and mechanical system software; calculator, copy, and fax machine; phone,

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Squatting, stooping, and kneeling to perform various tasks.

· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders in performing duties.
  • Ability to lift and move supplies, furniture, boxes, and other items while setting up for events, stocking supplies and performing other tasks.
  • Ability to operate a snow blower, lawn mower, power washer and other grounds equipment.
  • Ability to operate various power tools.
  • Ability to use various cleaning agents or tools in the process of completing custodial tasks.
  • Works in cramped body positions while perform some assigned duties.
  • Exposure to various chemical cleaning products.
  • Exposure to equipment where risk exists of being burned, bruised, scraped or cut.
  • May be required to change shifts due to call-ins.
