JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Asphalt Plant Operator
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Operates asphalt plant for the production of hot mix asphalt and other mix designs used in the construction and maintenance of roadways.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports directly to supervisor or project superintendent.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires full range of body motion including: Standing, walking, sitting, and bending over for extended periods of time. Requires reaching, crawling, climbing, grasping, kneeling, squatting, and twisting. Often requires lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling items weighing up to 100 pounds. Sometimes requires working at heights. Requires correct vision, far acuity, near acuity, depth perception and field of vision, and hearing within normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions. This is a safety sensitive position.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Frequent exposure to rain, sleet, snow, dust, mud, heat, cold, noise and other conditions common to a construction site. Contractual obligations may require irregular hours, out-of-town work, overnight stays, nights, weekends, and holidays.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: (This may not include all of the duties assigned)
- Inputs numerical data and operational data into a computer system for asphalt plant production activities.
- Operates controls for loading trucks with material.
- Monitors material temperature and quality.
- Participates as a crew member in daily production operations and assists in plant preventative maintenance as assigned.
- Reports mechanical failures, and/or material inconsistencies to supervisor.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
- Closely works with Quality Control Department.
- Knows, understands and follows the rules and regulations of the Company “Employee Safety Policy and Handbook.”
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of safety hazards and necessary safety precautions for self and others sufficient to establish a safe work environment. Knowledge of maintenance practices and procedures sufficient to be able to assist in developing and maintaining programs for preventative maintenance. Skills to interpret and apply written guidelines and work practices to standardize work situations, recognizing non-standardized situations, and preparing recommendations for problem resolutions.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 1 year may be required
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE: Valid and active driver license may be required.
ALTERNATIVE TO MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Experience within this job description is preferred, but may not be required.
