We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as Assistant Consumer Compliance Officer. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to build a career and contribute to the success of a dynamic organization.

Job Title: Assistant Consumer Compliance Officer

Location: Apex Bank, Knoxville, TN

Reports To: Vice President Audit and Compliance

What You’ll Do:

Step into a pivotal role where you’ll collaborate closely with our Compliance Officer to ensure the highest standards of compliance with Federal and State banking regulations. You’ll spearhead efforts to implement and maintain the bank’s Consumer Compliance Program, safeguarding the bank’s adherence to crucial laws and rules. Drawing upon your expertise, you’ll monitor and adapt regulatory changes, covering areas like ECOA, HMDA, FCRA, RESPA, TILA, TISA, CRA, and more. Your deep understanding of standard transactions and processes will be key as you ensure accuracy and alignment with industry standards. Responsibilities:

Regulatory Compliance Oversight: Ensure bank operations adhere to federal and state banking regulations, including ECOA, TILA, HMDA, and CRA. Develop and maintain policies to meet regulatory requirements and align with industry best practices.

  • Risk Management and Controls: Identify potential compliance risks and design safeguards to mitigate them. Conduct regular reviews or processes to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements while minimizing operational vulnerabilities.

Monitoring and Reporting: Track compliance activities, monitor transactions and generate detailed reports on compliance performance. Address gaps, recommend corrective actions, and keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes and impacts.

Internal Audits and Testing: Prepare for and assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and responding to inquiries. Conduct compliance testing to ensure the effectiveness of internal controls.

Employee Training and Development: Create and deliver compliance training programs to educate staff on regulations and policies. Provide ongoing support to ensure employees are well-versed in their compliance responsibilities.

Policy and Procedure Updates: Regularly review and update policies, procedures, and manuals to reflect changes in regulatory requirements and business practices. Ensure clear documentation of all updates and communicate them effectively.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with departments such as Operations, Legal and IT to ensure seamless integration of compliance practices into daily operations. Provide guidance on compliance related matters to ensure consistency and accuracy.

Special Projects and Initiatives: Contribute to compliance related projects, including system updates, process improvements, or regulatory driven initiatives. Ensure timely completion of successful implementation.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • 2 years of experience in compliance, risk management, auditing, or a related role within the banking or financial services industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of banking regulations including ECOA, TILA, HMDA, RESPA, TISA and Fair Lending.
  • Proficiency in compliance management software and tools.
  • Familiarity with internal auditing processes and regulatory reporting standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to prepare clear and concise reports, policies and recommendations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and effectively communicate complex regulatory requirements to non-compliance personnel.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) preferred.
