Apex Community Health Center currently seeking a part-time or full-time experienced Medical Assistant for a medical clinic in Reseda, CA. The successful candidate should be a multi-skilled professional, capable of working independently and as part of a team to provide quality service and care to our patients. Must be mature, sincere and empathetic with patients, have a positive attitude, and develop a trusting relationship with patients and staff. Computer literacy required. Must be organized, have the ability to follow through and complete work assignments independently, be responsible and pay attention to details.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries.
- Handles multiple telephone lines and transfers call to the appropriated person as needed.
- Verifies patient’s name, demographics including phone number and address, insurance, and primary care provider. Asks for any forms that need to be filled out by the provider and collects the appropriate fee.
- Explains, asks and if needed, helps patients to complete appropriate forms.
- Verifies all insurance eligibility. Helps patients with PCP changes if needed.
- Makes appointments over the phone or in person and provides patients appropriate information, repeats to patient the date and time of his/her next appointment, provider’s name and location of appointments.
- Directs patient to appropriate department as indicated by the schedule.
- Recognizes outstanding balances and refers them to appropriate staff for follow-up.
- Collects co-pays and payments for all services, prints out receipts and balances cash drawer daily according to the cash control policy.
- Demonstrates knowledge of contracted insurance plans and procedures; knows which providers are contracted with what health plans and which plans require referrals and/or prior authorizations.
- Notifies provider’s assistant of any no-shows or cancellations immediately.
- Follows all procedures contained in a financial policy.
- Reschedules and cancels appointments as necessary.
- Monitors the lobby area for patients or visitors who may have medical difficulties. Assists and communicates with the medical assistant or provider any patient issues.
- Makes sure the reception area is clean and organized.
- Keeps patients informed of wait times and communicates with provider or medical assistant accordingly.
- Informs medical assistant of late arrivals and accommodates patients as directed.
- Maintains customer service level consistent with ACHC’s vision by providing courteous and friendly demeanor when dealing with the public or co-workers.
- Takes complete, accurate and neat phone messages if necessary.
- Adheres to Universal Precautions at all times.
- Uses, protects, and discloses ACHC patient’s protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.
- Performs additional duties as designed.

Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
