Job Description:

Job Summary: We are seeking a talented and motivated Senior R&D Chemist to join our team. This role involves leading projects from inception to completion, focusing on the synthesis and characterization of small organic molecules. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in organic chemistry, with a preference for experience in phosphorus or sulfur chemistry.

Location: Richmond VA

Salary Range:

• $85,000 - $100,000 depending on experience.
• Low $90,000s for PhD graduates right out of school.
• $95,000 - $100,000 for candidates with 2-3 years of post-doctoral experience.

Responsibilities:

Lead and manage projects to develop new components for lubricant performance.

Design and synthesize new organic molecules, and characterize them using techniques such as NMR, MS, and spectroscopy.

Analyze and test new components, ensuring robust performance through statistical analysis.

Collaborate with Process Development to scale up synthesis and ensure quality parameters.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of chemical industry suppliers and raw material supply chains.

Ensure chemical safety and compliance in collaboration with the Environmental, Health, & Safety team.

Protect and generate intellectual property in collaboration with the Legal team.

Maintain accurate lab notebooks and ensure objective and accurate data reporting.

Manage technical relationships with third-party suppliers.

Coordinate multiple workstreams and manage technical projects in line with the Product Development Process.

Represent the company in technical societies and industry activities, and stay informed of advanced developments.

Direct the work of technicians and other chemists as needed.

Ensure a safe working environment and adhere to established safety policies and procedures.

Education & Experience:

• PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent.
• Experience in chemical synthesis and characterization, with a background in aromatic alkylation chemistry, olefin isomerization, or small molecule synthesis.
• Experience in phosphorus and/or sulfur chemistries is a plus.
• Proficiency in interpreting NMR, Mass Spec, and other analytical techniques is necessary.
• Experience with statistical analysis software is preferred.
