About the Role :

As a Peer Specialist in the Health Care and Social Assistance industry, your major end result will be to provide support and assistance to individuals with mental health or substance use disorders. You will play a crucial role in helping clients navigate the challenges they face and work towards their recovery goals. By sharing your own lived experiences and offering guidance, you will empower clients to develop coping skills, build social connections, and improve their overall well-being. Your dedication and commitment will contribute to the positive impact on the lives of individuals in need of support.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a certified Peer Specialist training program.
  • Lived experience with mental health or substance use disorders.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Previous experience working as a Peer Specialist or in a similar role.
  • Certification as a Peer Specialist.
  • Knowledge of community resources and support services.
  • Experience in facilitating support groups or educational workshops.
  • Responsibilities :

  • Engage with clients on a regular basis to establish a trusting and supportive relationship.
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement to clients, helping them to identify and achieve their recovery goals.
  • Assist clients in developing and implementing individualized recovery plans, utilizing evidence-based practices.
  • Facilitate support groups and educational workshops to promote self-advocacy and enhance clients' knowledge and skills.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated care and effective treatment outcomes.
  • Skills :

    In this role, you will utilize your strong interpersonal and communication skills to establish rapport and build trust with clients. Your ability to actively listen and provide non-judgmental support will be essential in helping clients feel understood and valued. Additionally, your knowledge of evidence-based practices and recovery principles will guide your interactions with clients, as you assist them in developing and implementing individualized recovery plans. Your understanding of community resources and support services will enable you to connect clients with the appropriate resources to meet their needs. Finally, your facilitation skills will be utilized in leading support groups and educational workshops, fostering a sense of community and promoting self-advocacy among clients.
