Position Summary :
We are seeking a qualified and experienced peer specialist to join our community. The ideal candidate will hold a peer specialist certification for mental health and / or substance use experience (or obtain one within 90 days of hire), have a minimum of 2 years of sustained recovery, and a minimum of 2 years of work experience in the behavioral health field. Our peer specialists play a crucial role in leading outreach efforts and providing hands-on recovery support.
PSGs peer specialists engage, inspire, and facilitate meaningful recovery support services. They assist and encourage clients to explore, create, and meet their own recovery goals while promoting and reinforcing PSGs recovery-oriented culture in which each clients unique values are recognized, understood, respected, and integrated into services and programming. Additionally, peers provide in-the-moment support and respond to critical situations with high-touch engagement and de-escalation skills which support a least restrictive environment for individuals experiencing difficulties or crises related to a mental health / addiction challenge.
A peer specialist is a trained professional with success in their own recovery also referred to as lived experience. Because of their lived experience, such persons have expertise that professional training cannot replicate. The peer specialist has experienced significant recovery that qualifies their ability to provide peer support services. They offer peer support to individuals who have similar life experiences and act as a positive role model, mentor, advocator, and motivator. Peer specialists will report to and be directly supervised by the Peer Support Supervisor who is an experienced peer specialist with lived experience.
Qualifications
- Have an active peer specialist credential or gain certification within the first 90 days of hire.
- Have a minimum of 2 years of sustained recovery and minimum of 2 years of work experience in the behavioral health field.
- Draws upon own personal recovery experience with mental health / addiction challenges as a basis for engagement with members as a peer, and to validate members own lived experiences.
- Assists clients with voicing their strengths, interests and goals throughout their services including : goal plans, crisis plans and other methods of expressing individual preferences.
- Utilizes a comprehensive resource guide and educates members about local community supports and resources.
- Supports clients in developing strategies to reduce self-stigma.
- Engages and communicates with a wide range of clients served, especially those who are struggling to be active in their own recovery.
- Actively participates in multidisciplinary team meetings and supervision by clinical team.
- Participates in verbal de-escalation and interventions in emergent situations and is willing and able to assist other staff as needed to maintain a safe, healing environment for all.
- Travels locally to provide outreach to clients served in the community.
- Must complete all provided training courses in PSGs advanced peer specialist training program.

Compensation : Hourly ($24$27), part-time & full-time positions available, commensurate with experience.
