Site Supervisor - Informational Overview & Position Description SUMMARY ASP is gearing up for another summer season in which we'll be hosting nearly 10,000 volunteers coming to Central Appalachia to serve families in need - but Hurricane Helene and several other disaster events have changed the landscape and the level of need in this region. With that in mind, we are building a team of Site Supervisors to help ensure we provide effective service to our friends and neighbors, facilitate positive experiences for our volunteers, and uphold a quality standard of construction. These Site Supervisors will leverage knowledge, professional expertise, and servant leadership to provide additional capacity for ASP staff, especially as we continue building new homes in more places for disaster survivors. Site Supervisors will oversee quality construction on 1 to 4 worksites at a time, in a specific county or location, dependent on proximity and skill level of group. The role is set up to facilitate, empower, and teach volunteers how to build a new home - in many cases, for a family who's lost everything. Volunteer tasks in building new ASP homes typically include: framing, siding, doors, windows, roofing, floors, finishes, painting, porches/ramps, foundation sealant, minor sitework, and landscaping. Typically, the following tasks are subcontracted to licensed professionals: blockwork, mortar, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, drywall, and major site work. The need for Site Supervisors is still being geographically and logistically right sized, but it is currently, predominantly in disaster impacted communities of east Tennessee and western North Carolina, with a possible need also in eastern Kentucky. We can accommodate Site Supervisors for a single week of service, for the entire summer, or for a set number of weeks (anywhere from one to nine weeks, from June 1st through August 2nd). KEY PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES On a day to day level, the responsibilities of Site Supervisors (with some assistance and support from ASP staff) will include, but not necessarily be limited to: ensuring that all supplies, materials, and tools for the tasks at hand are on site and ready; maintaining steady communications with ASP staff about material ordering, delivery, and planning; potentially facilitating some pick up and transportation of supplies and materials (delivery vehicles can be available if needed); greeting volunteers (holding a morning prayer moment, if you feel comfortable, or asking a volunteer to pray); providing an overview of the tasks to accomplish, including a proper safety briefing, as well as a targeted stopping point for the day and week ahead; teaching skills, construction knowledge, and best practices that the group needs, and then allowing them to build - coaching and guiding along the way. Site Supervisors may not be able to be on one particular site all day, as it may prove necessary to run for supplies and materials or check on other nearby sites. So, delegating and empowering the volunteers, facilitating their success and ability to work on their own, is of paramount importance - even if they stumble somewhat in trying to figure it out, the Site Supervisors will be there to guide them as they learn. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPECTATIONS * Professional experience in general, residential construction. The right person for this role will be able to review a set of (simple but efficient) house plans and jump in to oversee any stage of construction (after a meeting with staff on specifics). * Patience, flexibility, and understanding. It takes a special type of person to fill this role as it concentrates on empowering and teaching volunteers more than on personal skill. Volunteers come willing and enthusiastic to help and range from highly skilled to unskilled. They also range in age from middle school to adult. (Youth have their own chaperones and Site Supervisors are not expected to be responsible for chaperoning youth volunteers.) * ASP is a Christian organization, with a code of standards outlined in what we call our Three S’s. * ASP, our staff, and affiliates accept people right where they are and just as they are. Homeowners, staff, and volunteers come from diverse backgrounds, ages, beliefs, and socio-economic circumstances. We welcome everyone to serve with a spirit of love, respect, and shared community. Site Supervisors are expected to foster this same inclusive and compassionate environment, engaging with all individuals in a spirit of dignity and mutual respect. * Site Supervisors will be expected to successfully pass a background check. * A typical work week will likely consist of, but not be limited to, the following: o Saturday/Sunday - get to know your site(s), confer with ASP staff on planned work scope and benchmarks as well as materials, supplies, and tools. Volunteers arrive on Sunday afternoon - build a relationship with your volunteers and ensure delegations of the site are properly assigned, given experience level. Monday to Friday- work on site(s) with volunteers from (roughly) 8:30AM to 4:30PM. Basic lunch will be provided for each day. After the work day - ensure all supplies and materials needed for the next day are delivered, facilitated, or ordered with ASP staff. And then assist in passing off notes on Saturday to the next Site Supervisor before departing. COMPENSATION * ASP has the ability to compensate Site Supervisors at a rate of $1,000 per week, to offset the costs of time, travel, and other expenses. * Additionally, ASP can reimburse Site Supervisors for gas and mileage expenses while serving with us. [On-the-job mileage must be tracked or gas receipts saved to be eligible for reimbursement.] * Lodging and meals are provided at our volunteer hosting facilities ("Centers") throughout your stay. [This lodging will likely be floor space for a cot/airmat, in a room with others of your same gender. Bathrooms and showers will be a shared space. Food is simple, cafeteria-style food.] If you would not like to stay in the Center, you are welcome to find your own accommodations at your own expense. INTERESTED? * Please click here: FILL OUT THIS FORM. * Upon successful vetting, Site Supervisors and ASP staff will have virtual in-briefings and trainings - to begin discussing blueprints, construction specifics, logistical processes, and more. * Similarly, as the summer and specific trips approach, ASP will reach out with details on tools, materials, phases of construction, and more. ASP is an equal opportunity employer, committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace. No one will be denied employment on the grounds of age, race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, family status or differing physical or mental ability. Employment decisions will be based on merit, qualifications, and ability to perform the duties of the position for which employment is sought.
