ASP is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Using the skills and efforts of thousands of volunteers, ASP provides home repair and replacement to low-income households in Central Appalachia.

About the Position
This is a full-time temporary position to assist with the development and implementation of new faith and service curriculum to enhance the experience of volunteers, to develop more leadership training opportunities for youth and young adults, and to foster spiritual development among ASP’s staff. The Spiritual Programs Coordinator will work closely with the Director of Spiritual Programs and the Curriculum Advisory Team for new Curriculum Development; will be the lead staff person for curriculum implementation and will collaborate with the Director of Spiritual Programs on staff spiritual leadership training. In addition, the Spiritual Programs Coordinator will serve as the lead for ASP’s Fellowship program and Chaplain for the Fellows, will assist with the Youth Leadership Summit, serve as a summer Chaplain, and assist the Director of Spiritual Programs with other Chaplain duties as needed.
This position is based in Johnson City, Tennessee. Irregular hours will be required at times, and this role will require travel within our service area between volunteer centers in multiple counties in Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky and North Carolina.
Job Responsibilities
- Development of new faith and service curriculum for volunteers of all ages using diverse pedagogies and a wide range of theological expression.
- Write curriculum for the summer and year-round programs that align with our yearly theme and expand these for our year-round programs.
- Serve as a chaplain for Summer Staff and Fellows, by providing spiritual and emotional support and encouraging growth in faith and spiritual leadership.
- Help lead staff training that helps ASP summer staff members gain skills in leading new spiritual programming for volunteers.
- Provide leadership with Young Adults in ASP’s Fellowship program including curriculum development for their ongoing vocational discernment and growth in faith.
Administrative
- Help ensure all curriculum implementation goals are on track.
- Seek applicable training opportunities to enhance skill and knowledge.
- Adhere to budget guidelines.
- Prepare for and participate in ongoing evaluation processes for ASP’s faith and service curriculum.
Other
- Coordinate with other Departments and aspects of ASP’s mission, as needed.
- Adhere to organizational and departmental core values, expectations, guiding principles, mission, vision, and budget guidelines.
- Anything else that contributes to the smooth-running operation of ASP’s mission.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Candidate Description
Required:
- Willingness to work in a Christian environment
- Seminary Training or degree
- Experience teaching youth and young adults in church or ministry context
- Proficiency in creating engaging lesson plans and resources for diverse learning styles and age groups.
- Knowledge of Christian Spiritual life and willingness to learn more from a variety of perspective.
- Proven experience in curriculum development and teaching, preferably within a Christian context.
- Chaplain and Spiritual Care giving experience with young adults.
- A heart for serving others and an understanding of the unique needs of Christian communities.
- Ability to work independently and take on projects.
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal abilities
- Highly organized, ability to plan ahead, attention to detail and ability to work well in a team
- Conflict resolution and conflict management experience
- Excellent time management ability
Other Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and driving record that is acceptable to ASP’s insurer.
- May require lifting items (boxes, materials) weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Satisfactory results on a thorough background check.

Personal:
15 days paid annually for the first two years.
