ACIL Independent Living Skills Trainer/Advocacy Specialist (Full-Time Non-Exempt Position)
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provide the core services of Information & Referral (I&R), Advocacy, Peer Support, Independent Living Skills Training and Transitions to consumers in the 16-county service area. (Kanawha, Putnam, Clay, and Roane counties for in-person services and virtually via Zoom for the other 12 counties)
- Promote the Independent Living Philosophy in the community.
- Provides diversion services to individuals with disabilities at risk of entering an institutional setting.
- Provides youth transition services, in accordance with the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) of 2014, through establishing a close working relationship with local schools to facilitate with post-secondary education with youth ages 14 to 24.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations and consumers to expand opportunities for community connections. Serve on councils and boards as appropriate.
- Maintain effective and positive working relationships with all disability partners as well as other agencies/service providers to encourage referrals, promote cooperation, and ensure effectiveness of services.
- Ability to work with diverse consumers on a cross disabilities basis and understand their independent living needs to find resources in the community for referrals.
- Prepare and submit reports as required in accordance with ACIL’s Operational Policies and Procedures.
- Instruct the Instruction in Self-Advocacy Trainings for youth ages 14-21 through a co-operative effort with the West Virginia Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS).
- Maintain an up-to-date expertise in available resources, disability rights legislation, regulations, and policies relevant to people with disabilities and advocate as appropriate.
- Work with other staff to create a network consisting of necessary resources to support consumers in their pursuit of independent living.
- Collaborate with emergency preparedness groups to ensure people with disabilities are included in all aspects of plans to address disasters.
- Must document consumer information and services using CIL Management Suites. Must document regularly.
- Regular attendance and punctuality is required.
- Provide services in compliance with HIPPA (confidentiality) requirements.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Services, or related field. In the absence of a bachelor’s degree, an associate degree and equivalent work and life experience may be considered. Personal experience with a disability or working with persons with disabilities is preferred.
SUPERVISION OF POSITION: This position is supervised by the Executive Director.
Salary Range:
Salary is negotiable, plus benefits including dental, vision, disability insurance, IRA, IRA match, annual, holiday, and sick leave.
