Humane Society Associate reports directly to the Office Manager and Humane Society Board President.
The Appalachian Highlands Humane Society is looking to add another Humane Society Associate to the team! This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position. Weekends required.
Job Description:
- Coordinate animal intakes with input from appropriate individual
- Perform vet checks and screen potential canine and feline adopters as directed
- Be aware of recommended scheduled vetting and complete all vetting in the
appropriate time frame
- Update and keep current cat logs, including rescue groups, on a daily basis
- Update canine logs to account for all activities involving dogs and puppies
- Maintain a neat and orderly office area with paperwork filed in designated areas on
a daily basis
- Answer the phone in a timely manner and assist or direct appropriately
- Answer and reply to emails in a professional courteous manner
- Greet visitors and assist them with their needs
- Facilitate adoptions, including scheduling, answering questions about, updating the
required logs and following up post adoption
- Use of social media platforms to educate on upcoming adoption events
- Assist with foster program, to include performing vet checks, screening potential
fosters and adding approved fosters to appropriate lists
- Ensure that all volunteer protocols and procedures are strictly adhered to, to include
documenting hours in Volgistics and that the proper paperwork is completed and
kept as per HS guidelines
- Coordinate with appropriate individuals on upcoming needs and special projects
requiring volunteers
- Logging of monthly food distribution, by person or agency
- Maintain a clean and organized pet food room keeping pantry items separate from
in-house and foster items
- Assist with off-site outreach programs such as adoption and community events.
- Answer questions about the animals to potential adopters and fosters
- Transport animals to appointments and other errands as directed
- Clean and maintain kennels and animal living areas
- Taking dogs out at least twice per shift, a minimum of 20 minutes, to include 30
minutes prior to closing
- Provide each animal with food and water following approved feeding protocols
- Administration of oral or topical medicine as instructed, note dosing on appropriate
log
- Inform appropriate individual of any health issues you notice with the animals
- Occupied kennels cleaned and sweep to include replacing bedding and toys
- Occupied cat condos/cages cleaned, bedding and litter boxes cleaned and changed
as needed
- All litter boxes scooped
- Clean and disinfect all dirty litters pans
- Clean and disinfect dog and cat carriers as needed
- Wash, dry and fold laundry, and store appropriately (Leave laundry room clean and
orderly on a daily basis)
- Wash all food and water bowls and put them away in an orderly fashion at the end
of each shift
- Empty all trash in the building to include office areas, bathrooms, and animal trash
containers at the end of each shift
- Help maintain a clean and organized facility (Sweep, vacuum, mop floors, take out
the garbage and put away donations when necessary)
- Assist other employees, clients and volunteers in a friendly and respectful manner as
a representative of the Appalachian Highlands Humane Society
- Work to maintain a culture of “Clean as you go”
