About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Business Office Clerk to join our team at Appalachian Regional Healthcare. As a key member of our financial operations team, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate and timely patient accounts receivable, including billing, filing, and processing payments.
Job Summary
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, ICD-10 and CPT codes, and experience with UB04 and HCFA forms. You will work closely with ancillary services to ensure accurate charges are made and claims are submitted correctly and on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Interview patients, relatives, or others to determine payment arrangements and refer unusual cases to the immediate supervisor
- Communicate with ancillary services to verify accurate charges
- Post late charges, anesthesia/CRNA charges, payments, and adjustments daily to proper patient accounts
- Correct submission of claims to the correct payor and address within the established timeframe
- Perform cashier duties, such as receiving payments and issuing receipts, collecting monies from other areas, and preparing daily bank deposits
- Maintain applicable files and reports of adjustments to accounts receivable
- Contacts patients, doctors, or others for information necessary to properly complete insurance or other type billings, and rebilling in the prescribed time frame
- Answers inquiries on patient accounts and advises patients on insurance benefits within HIPAA guidelines
- Clears with Health Information Administrator before preparing and submitting all required medical data with billings
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- Preferably 1 year of experience in billing and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Healthcare billing experience preferred
- Minimum Work Experience: Three (3) to six (6) months on-the-job training as required to attain proficiency of performance of assigned duties and responsibilities
- Must have knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10 and CPT codes, and experience with UB04 and HCFA forms
- Ability to operate routine office machines, including but not limited to postage meter, typewriter, display terminal, and terminal printing
Estimated Salary
$45,000 - $60,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications
Work Environment
This role is based at our hospital location, where you will work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. You will be required to sit and type for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform tasks that require manual dexterity.
