Essential Job Functions
College Access Partnerships enhances college preparation for local and regional grade school students by providing funding and support to their teachers and school administrators. Through the implementation of multiple research grant programs, College Access Partnerships is working to improve educational access and increase postsecondary enrollment rates in western North Carolina.
Reporting to, and under the direction of, the CAP Assistant Director of Communications, the Public Communication Specialist is responsible for:
Reporting to, and under the direction of, the CAP Assistant Director of Communications, the Public Communication Specialist is responsible for:
- developing college access resources, creating content for multimedia platforms, and managing multiple communications projects for multiple grant programs (including GEAR UP, Empowering Teacher Learning, Upward Bound, Young Eisner Scholars, and College Advising Corps) for the purpose of enhancing college readiness best practices and the development of a sustainable college-going culture in all target schools.
- providing graphic design services and aligning content with the College Access Partnerships brand for a broad range of media, including brochures, posters, flyers, invitations, websites, e-newsletters, video, social media and other projects as assigned.
- designing, updating and maintaining web pages, social media, and email templates
- managing of print production, photography, video editing and working with outside vendors under direction of supervisor
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
- Highly organized
- Ability to multitask
- Be detail-oriented with experience in email marketing platforms, social media scheduling platforms like Hootsuite, Adobe products including Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, and experience with other digital communications platforms and technology
- Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team
- Ability to prioritize and complete assignments on time and with accuracy
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are a must
- Able to collaborate with a variety of partners including school personnel, business representatives, and campus partners
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefer baccalaureate degree program to be in related field such as graphic design, media production, or communications and two years of experience with visual arts production
- Two years of experience in communications related to supporting education and experience in supporting data collection through a variety of media platforms.

Required Functional Competencies to Successfully Perform Job Duties.
Knowledge – Program:
- Consults, plans, designs, and creates comprehensive graphics that support the CAP brand and communicate information through digital and traditional materials such as print materials, webpages, collateral, flyers, magazines (mini-mag, annual report), brochures, logos, save-the-dates and invitations, website and social advertising, thumbnails, digital banners, PowerPoint presentations, programs, agendas, surveys, org charts, data reports, and other materials as needed
Communication – Written:
- Uses stories, photographs, videos, graphics, and other tools to advance CAP goals in a creative and engaging manner.
- Manages CAP social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn).
- Creates material for social media to educate constituents about college access topics.
- Provides routine updates to CAP program staff on active projects regarding progress, challenges, and successes.
Knowledge – Technical:
- Uses video production skills to tell college-going culture stories of districts, students, staff, and towns across the CAP service areas.
- Serves as in-house CAP photographer for all relevant events in CAP service area.
- Updates and maintains College Access Partnerships websites.
- Creates material to showcase on websites.
Pay will be commensurate with applicant competencies, budget, equity and market considerations.
