Position Summary Information
Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree is required at the time of hire;
- A minimum of three years of work experience in a college or university education abroad office
- A minimum of two years of experience supervising the work of others;
- An understanding of student confidentiality issues and academic protocol;
- Significant experience with study abroad application software;
- Demonstrated capacity to manage conflict and find creative solutions to challenges;
- Ability to initiate, develop, and sustain strong positive working relationships with faculty and staff, program directors, department chairs, deans, and administrators across campus and at our partner institutions;
- Proficiency in intercultural competence and cultural humility;
- Solid written communication, oral communication, and interpersonal skills;
- Attention to detail;
- Ability to work some evenings and / or weekends and travel abroad occasionally

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Education Abroad unit within the Office of International Programs is responsible for facilitating education abroad experiences for Appalachian State University (Appalachian) students. Reporting directly to the Executive Director of International Programs, the Associate Director of Education Abroad for Faculty-Led Programs provides management and oversight of faculty-led programs. This role works closely with the campus community to actively develop and support Appalachian State education abroad programs designed to provide students with academic and cultural experiences around the world.
The Associate Director of Education Abroad for Faculty-Led Programs is responsible for the full range of duties associated with faculty-led education abroad programs. Primary responsibilities include team leadership, program development, relationship management, and advising and mentoring. Tasks include but are not limited to :
