Dietary Services Supervisor Requirements
- Certification as a Dietary Manager and/or Dietary Service Supervisor Certification
- Completion of COVID-19 vaccination, including booster shots
Primary Responsibilities of the Dietary Services Supervisor
- Oversee and manage the daily operations of the dietary department in compliance with State and Federal regulations
- Effectively manage food and labor budgets
- Participate in IDT meetings and patient care conferences; complete MDS documentation
- Collaborate with staff to provide nutritional care for patients
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the operations of the Dietary Department, including its programs and activities
- Create and maintain written dietary policies, procedures, and job descriptions; communicate these to employees, residents, visitors, and government agencies as needed
- Ensure that food served is appealing, appetizing, and tailored to meet the individual needs of residents
- Verify that food is served at the appropriate temperatures by checking and recording the temperatures of hot and cold foods according to established procedures
- Provide substitute food options of similar nutritional value for residents who decline certain foods
- Keep accurate records and tray tickets for all residents
- Post menus with dates at least one week in advance and promptly update menus if any changes occur
- Establish the budget for the dietary department
- Purchase food and supplies within the set budgetary limits
- Interview residents or family members as needed to gather dietary history and maintain ongoing communication to assess meal quality and satisfaction
- Assist in tracking expenses and planning menus
- Other duties may be assigned as needed
