Job Overview :
We are looking for an experienced Senior Payroll Specialist to manage payroll for both union and non-union hourly and salaried employees across multiple pay schedules. In this role, you will ensure payroll and accounting tasks are completed accurately and on time, adhering to deadlines and maintaining compliance with policies.
Key Responsibilities :
Administer weekly, bi-weekly, and semi-monthly payrolls for various manufacturing facilities, including salaried employees, union and non-union hourly staff, and student workers.
Prepare payroll journal entries for each pay period across all payroll groups.
Create and update detailed documentation of payroll processes and procedures for training purposes.
Assist in the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance with payroll policies and regulations.
Address complex payroll issues, including pay exceptions, bonus / incentive payments, retroactive pay, and problem resolution related to payroll, time tracking, and financial reporting.
Maintain confidentiality around personal, compensation, and benefits data.
Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and consistency when entering information into the HRIS system.
Generate and distribute monthly and quarterly management reports, such as headcount and turnover reports, for accounting and plant management teams.
Process various remittances, including garnishments, union dues, 401(k) contributions, and group insurance premiums.
Provide banking details for employee expense reimbursements as requested by the MDM team.
Support the Payroll Manager in year-end balancing and reporting activities.
Qualifications :
Minimum of 10 years of experience working in an automated payroll environment with complex payroll systems and processes.
Willingness to obtain the Canadian Payroll Association (CPP) certification.
Experience with Workday Payroll is highly preferred.
Proficient in Kronos time and attendance systems, and third-party payroll systems (ADP WFN preferred).
Strong knowledge of payroll-related government regulations, compliance, and benefits administration.
Previous experience with Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) is strongly desired.
Excellent communication, presentation, and analytical skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
