Position Description
Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mold Maker to join our Research & Development department. In this position, you will play a critical role in the development of new medical devices by leading and supervising the construction of molds and R&D components, ensuring they meet all specifications and quality standard. You will direct and coordinate the machining teams in constructing these parts to create a smooth process flow through the department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise the construction of molds and R&D components according to instructions and engineering drawings.
- Develop and maintain clear communication with all involved teams (e.g., design, machining, inspection) to ensure seamless collaboration and project progress.
- Identify and prioritize tasks associated with mold and component construction and the order in which a component moves through the shop.
- Create Routing Sheets clearly outlining the process of a components construction from start to finish.
- Prepare prototypes by mounting them on pallets and ensuring proper fixturing in the machine for consistent results.
Performance Objectives:
Within your first 30 days:
- Complete standard SOP procedure training.
- Develop routing sheets for basic components under supervision of another mold maker.
- Communicate processes to all teams involved in component construction, including leadership.
- Learn software system used by Applied Medical.
Within 60 days:
- Begin leading projects with no supervision.
- Develop routing sheets and schedules for more complex components.
- Communicate with other teams promptly.
Within 90 days to one year:
- Be comfortable completing routing sheets for complex component construction with no supervision in a timely manner.
- Have at least one component’s construction completed.
Position Requirements
- Minimum five years of injection mold making/building experience.
- Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and planning skills to create and maintain efficient workflows.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Have a technical aptitude and be detail oriented.
- Read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
- Must have basic computer skills, like proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Preferred
- Technical trade school training or equivalent technical experience.
- Experience with CNC Machines.
- Experience in manufacturing processes such as machining, injection molding, extrusion, and stamping.
- Experience with Medical Devices.
- Creative problem solving.
- Be flexible in reprioritizing tasks and projects day to day.
- Experience in project management and team leadership is essential.
