The Position : We are looking for a candidate who will be performing the role of a Journalist, supporting Utility Helicopter Program Office (UHPO).

The Location : Redstone Arsenal, AL

The Work Environment : On-Site.

The Description : The incumbent will :

  • Analyze, develop, and update Logistics documentation. Authoring products for a wide range of audiences, to include annual reports, program guides, information papers, and other documents using PEO / Army correspondence. Consult with program staff to ensure information is presented accurately. Regularly reviews executive level documents for editorial quality, consistency and compliance with established writing style, format, and content guidance. Also reviews for accuracy, readability, and appropriateness. Provides detailed feedback to the document author to highlight strengths and areas for editorial improvement. Provides guidance on editorial matters to personnel. Reviews policy and procedural documents and suggest additions, deletions, or revisions. Maintains awareness of current government writing and reporting style and format requirements and works directly with appropriate staff to resolve questions about its content.
  • Assists staff and action officers in preparing clear, accurate, and concisely written documents representing major management issues addressed to senior civilian and military executives within the UHPO and PEO-HQ. Examines the content of documents for clarity and length and advises on how to organize the material structurally in terms of the order of sentences, paragraphs, sections, and findings to improve the presentation. Assesses whether technical matters can be clearly understood and determines whether findings support the recommendations and the overall conclusions of the document. Ensures information presented is complete, accurate, and up to date.
  • Assist the author of the document with suggestions on how to restructure the material so that it is clear and convincing. Ensures that all comments on documents are addressed and portrayed according to policy. Compiles the work of multiple authors from across programs, ensuring consistency of writing mechanics and expression, logical organization and development, and general readability. Ensures clarity and correctness of spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Ensures that statements are complete, clear, and logical; that technical terminology is uniform; that syntax and expression are consistent; and that paragraph organization is logical and conveys the desired emphasis. Ensures that documents conform to government writing style, printing and publishing standards. Provides expertise and guidance in visual information communication.

Education & Experience :

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance, required.
  • Bachelor's Degree with two (2) years of related experience.
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task; prioritize internal and external tasks / projections.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Experience writing and editing technical documents, processes, and procedures.
  • Knowledge to write and edit documents tailored to specified media and audiences, often to include substantial rewriting.
  • Broad knowledge of publishing concepts, practices, standards, and technologies for the media used.
  • Knowledge of design, graphics, colors, layout and illustration techniques to showcase the material in an integrated, readable manner to facilitate the comprehension and understanding of the intended audience.
  • Skill to prepare documentation and presentations in proper format in accordance with Army correspondence rules of grammar and punctuation
  • Travel :

  • On some occasions, the employee may be required to drive to offices or buildings near the work site. In rare occasions, travel may be required.
