Job purpose
Provides support work to County Administration Departments. Performs intermediate skilled clerical and responsible technical work involving a variety of administrative support in an office environment; does related work as required.
Duties and responsibilities
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of time spent working in this class. · Assists with the coordination of programs to meet the needs of a diverse community. Maintains calendars, schedules, and collaborates with the Youth Association on the planning of youth sports programs;
· Responsible for all aspects of tourism including but not limited to, tourism marketing program, social media promotion, involvement in local, state, and regional tourism efforts, promotion and enhancement of local attractions.
· Distribution of tourism materials to visitor centers and individuals, and creation/operation of special events; participates in the development of these materials, when necessary.
· Attends meetings of department heads, various supervisory and advisory boards, and community groups to present community programs, and receives feedback on programs. Helps the public with questions and concerns regarding programs;
· Prepares periodic reports for County Administrator, Board of Supervisors, and makes presentations on department matters to the Board of Supervisors as required;
· Inspects the community center and sports complex facilities for safety and cleanliness and coordinates maintenance needs with the Maintenance Department;
· Works with groups and individuals on related tourism, economic development and community development to establish programs and marketing efforts to further enhance business, industry and tourism throughout the community;
· Assists local businesses and entrepreneurs with business development related questions and provides requested site location informational materials, when necessary;
· Identifies and capitalizes on opportunities to further partnerships between applicable state and federal agencies in the furtherance of economic development in the community;
· Identifies economic opportunities and provides oversight and associated grant proposal applications, contracts, and other necessary documents that align with local and regional economic development plans;
· Works in collaboration with the Community Development Director and County Administrator to plan and execute Economic Development/Tourism activities;
Qualifications
Qualifications include:
· Requires a valid Virginia Driver’s License.
· Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration or closely related field is preferred.
· Supplemental experience and/or training that includes tourism development; minimum three (3) years or combination of education, training and experience.
· Exhibit excellent written and oral communication skills.
· Creative Thinker.
· Flexibility to change when responsibilities change based on organizational growth.
· Extensive experience developing and managing community partnerships and relationships to drive community growth.
· Proven ability to plan, organize, and manage programs and activities across various types and ages of groups.
· Proficiency in computer applications for administrative tasks, program coordination, and promotional activities.
Working Conditions
Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions. May be required to work nights and weekends periodically to meet the needs of the community. Must be capable of working in both indoor and outdoor environments.
