Who we are looking for:
AMPORTS, Inc is searching for an experienced Operations Manager in the maritime industry to manage our Stevedoring business in Baltimore, MD. The Operations Manager will provide leadership and direction to Superintendents, as well as union labor force while maintaining a safe, efficient and productive terminal operation.
Pay Range: $120,000 - $150,000
What you'll do:
- Responsible for coordinating all safety, security, terminal, stevedoring and ancillary services for all ship calls.
- Develop operational plans for the ship’s safety, security, traffic and parking activity.
- Maintains good working relationship with labor and union officials to ensure that all labor policies and contracts are adhered to.
- Attends regular meetings with labor, giving them current company information, emphasizing good safety practices for the terminal.
- Effectively manages the work activities of the Foreman, Labor and other personnel; ensuring performance expectations and customer needs are met.
- Determines the amount of labor needed for each day and ensures labor is order appropriately for your assigned area.
- Participates in regular training and feedback to labor and management staff.
- Communicates areas of accountability and performance expectations to labor and management staff.
- Develops, communicates, maintains and improves operating and administrative procedures (consistent with area procedures and objectives) designed to provide required information and facilitate internal practices.
- Ensures certifications and required training and clearance is current for you and your staff.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with all permit requirements as needed.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA facility and stevedoring standards.
- Approve all operational reports.
- Ensure payroll procedures are followed to report accurate data.
- Provide customer support and coordination for all ships.
- Ensure that staff is adequately educated and trained in OSHA, OHS&E policies and collective bargaining agreements.
- Maintain and implement security and emergency response plans.
- Functions as Alternate Facility Security Officer when needed.
- Report to Senior VP of Operations on conditions of facility and operational readiness.
- Other duties as assigned.
What you'll bring:
- BA/BS degree in any discipline OR an equivalent combination of Education and Experience
- A valid Driver’s License in good standing is required.
- Requires the ability to obtain a TWIC Card issued by the Department of Homeland Security.
- Minimum two (2) years' experience in Terminal Operations or closely related field.
Preferred Requirements:
- Prior Superintendent experience.
- Demonstrated leadership managing union contracts and union labor.
- Knowledge and understanding of cargo stowage and stability.
- Knowledge of and commitment to safety and accident prevention, safety codes and regulations, and related industry governmental regulations.
- Thorough knowledge or principles of terminal operations and cargo stowage.
Physical Demands:
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, occasional sitting.
- The ability to climb up and down stairs and equipment multiple times within a shift.
- Requires physical ability to work on a ship and in a yard.
- Lift, push, and or pull up to 50lbs
Work Environment:
- The ability to work in changing hot and cold climates based on weather conditions.
- The ability to work in an environment with moving objects and machinery.
- Work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast moving equipment.
