This entry-level position is responsible for assisting with daily HR functions, including employee onboarding, records management, benefits administration , and compliance with government regulations. The role involves includes handling confidential information, providing a positive employee experience , and supporting smooth HR operations in alignment with company policy and government requirements. This opportunity is ideal for someone who wants to learn all areas of HR with the growth opportunity to become an HR Generalist or HR Specialist.

This position is a hybrid role, requiring two days per week at the Old Town office in Alexandria, VA. Office hours and days are flexible with paid free garage parking available .

Primary Responsibilities
- New Hire Onboarding and Orientation :
- Schedule and present orientation sessions and assist in introducing new hires to company policies, procedures , and the culture.
- Process new hire onboarding requirements in various systems (e.g., ADP, Jira) .
- Complete I-9 employment eligibility verifications.
- Track and log employee resume s submissions .
- Employee Relations , Benefits and Payroll Support :
- Assist employees with basic questions related to benefits, leave , and other HR policies.
- He lp process employee benefits enrollments .
- Process leave requests and timesheets.
- Handle routine HR administrative tasks such as preparing HR notices and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Process employee terminations in various systems and assist with offboarding tasks.
- Participate in and contribute to HR initiatives and special projects as needed.
- General Office Support:
- Sort, distribute and process incoming mail and packages.
- Support facilities, such as booking reservations, submitting catering orders, monitoring office and pantry inventory, restocking and purchasing supplies.
- Issue, activate and deactivate office key fobs.
- Compliance and Documentation:
- Complete O ffice of Personnel Management (O PM ) and other employment verifications.
- Create and m aintain accurate and confidential employee records.
- Assist in ensuring the company compli ance with federal and state labor laws, including Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ( EEOC ) , Fam ily Medical Leave Act ( FMLA ) , and Occupational Safety and Health Administration ( OSHA ) regulations.
- Assist in preparing reports for government audits or compliance checks.
- Bachelor’s degree inHR, Business Administration, or a related field. Relevant work experience in an administrative role or HR internship may substitute for education.
- 0-2 years of HR or related experience
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Solid computer literacy with p roficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
- Strong customer service with the ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Experience working for a government contract or or exposure to federal contracting .
- Basic knowledge of federal, state , and local employment laws and regulations.
- Familiarity with ADP Workforce Now, Unanet, JIRA , and iCIMS and/ or other HR software tools.
