Job Summary
Job Title: Histotechnologist (Histo Tech)
Location: White River Junction VA Medical Center
Job Summary:
The Histotechnologist (HT) will be responsible for processing, embedding, cutting, staining, and cover-slipping tissue specimens for pathological examination. The role also includes assisting with frozen sections and autopsies.
Primary Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Process and prepare tissue specimens by fixation, embedding, sectioning, and staining.
- Perform routine and special staining techniques as per pathologists’ requests.
- Operate laboratory equipment such as microtomes, tissue processors, and automated stainers.
- Assist pathologists during frozen sections, surgical procedures, and autopsies.
- Maintain proper documentation and quality control logs.
- Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, and VA laboratory standards.
- Follow safety and infection control protocols for handling biohazardous materials.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Histotechnology, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
- National certification as a Histotechnologist (HT) by ASCP or AMT.
- Minimum of three (3) years of recent experience in histology and cytology.
- Proficiency in tissue processing, microtomy, and staining.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced laboratory setting while maintaining quality standards.
Desired Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a VA medical facility or federal healthcare environment.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS).
