Job Summary:
The Phlebotomist will be responsible for collecting and processing blood samples from patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This position requires expertise in venipuncture, adherence to strict safety protocols, and excellent patient interaction skills.
Primary Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform blood draws on patients, including inpatient ward rounds, emergency department, and outpatient services.
- Properly identify patients and verify sample labeling prior to testing.
- Follow standard operating procedures for sample processing and send-out preparation.
- Adhere to infection control and safety guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for all specimens collected.
- Ensure quality assurance and compliance with laboratory standards.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of three (3) years of recent phlebotomy experience.
- Proficiency in venipuncture and capillary blood collection techniques.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced medical setting.
- Compliance with VA infection control and immunization requirements (e.g., TB testing, Hepatitis B, COVID-19 vaccine).
Desired Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).
- Experience working with Veterans Affairs (VA) or federal healthcare facilities.
