Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Aerial/Underground Fiber Optic Placement Technician to join our team. This role involves the installation and maintenance of fiber optic cables in both aerial and underground settings. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of network infrastructure and demonstrate proficiency in using various tools and equipment necessary for the job. This position requires a commitment to safety and quality workmanship while working in diverse environments.
Duties
- Install, maintain, and repair aerial and underground fiber optic cables.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment to complete installation tasks efficiently.
- Conduct field service operations, ensuring all work meets industry standards.
- Perform testing of network infrastructure using voltmeters and other diagnostic equipment.
- Collaborate with team members to build and enhance WAN connectivity.
- Troubleshoot issues related to cabling and network performance.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
- Adhere to safety protocols while operating heavy machinery and working in various weather conditions.
Job Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain specialized construction equipment including mini-excavators, directional drilling machines, vibratory plows, and bucket trucks. (We need someone who has is skilled on one or more of these machines, we can cross train from there)
- Install fiber-optic cables on poles (using bucket trucks) and underground (conduit installation).
- Perform fiber-optic drops to residences and businesses (overhead and underground).
- Equipment maintenance, inventory management, and landscape restoration post-project.
- Utilize tools such as cable locators, test equipment, and perform pole climbing as required.
Requirements
- Proven experience in field service, particularly with cabling systems.
- Familiarity with WAN technologies and network infrastructure.
- Proficient in the use of voltmeters, hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment operation.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot effectively.
- Excellent communication skills for collaboration with team members and clients.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Willingness to work in various outdoor environments under different weather conditions.
- A valid driver's license may be required for travel between job sites.
Qualifications:
- Required: Minimum of 2 years' hands-on experience operating at least one of the following: Directional Drilling, Excavators, or Vibratory Plows.
- Proven experience in fiber-optic installation or related construction fields strongly preferred.
- CDL preferred.
