What are the responsibilities and job description for the Biology Lab Coordinator position at Aquinas College?
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Biology Laboratory Coordinator to manage and
support our biology lab operations at Aquinas College. This individual will oversee lab
preparation, inventory management, and student-worker supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
● Manage and maintain the biology stockroom, including ordering and organizing lab
supplies, chemicals, and equipment.
● Manage and maintain essential equipment and research spaces through routine checks,
independent troubleshooting, and coordination with vendors/technicians.
● Set up and break down lab materials for 12-15 sections in four laboratory spaces per
semester. Lab sections are typically held Monday through Thursday and may require
set-up outside of normal business hours.
● Ensure lab spaces are properly stocked, cleaned, and prepared for use.
● Supervise and train student workers assisting with lab setups and maintenance.
● Maintain and submit accurate records of lab inventory, expenditures, and supply orders.
● Follow safety protocols and assist with maintaining compliance with laboratory safety
regulations.
● Collaborate with faculty to support lab curriculum needs and ensure proper material
availability.
● Support a low volume of summer research in many of the ways listed above.
● Other associated duties as necessary
Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in biology, Laboratory Science, or a related field.
● Experience with laboratory preparation, stockroom management, or related work
preferred.
● Strong organizational and time-management skills.
● Ability to effectively train and supervise student workers.
● Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
● Proficiency with ordering systems and inventory tracking.
