What are the responsibilities and job description for the Groundskeeper position at Aquinas College?
Summary and Purpose:
This position provides services to maintain and enhance the grounds of Aquinas College.
Essential Functions:
- Mows, weeds, and edges the lawns on campus.
- Prunes, trims, and plants annuals and perennials.
- Participates in the upkeep and maintenance of synthetic athletic fields.
- Removes trash, makes road repairs, and maintains and repairs irrigation systems.
- Shovels, plows, and salts the walkways and steps, as needed.
- Directs the activities of temporary employees, as necessary.
- Works on-call as needed November-April.
- Performs other job duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must have grounds keeping experience.
- Must have State of Michigan Driver’s License.
- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Michigan Pesticide Applicator’s License within the first six months of employment.
- Must have knowledge of irrigation.
- Must be able to operate a tool cat, front end loader, and mowing equipment.
- Must be able to run a chainsaw for tree removal.
- Must have a working knowledge of pruning shrubs and trees.
- Knowledge of turf grass and weeds preferred.
- Knowledge of perennials and annuals, along with installation, preferred.
- Must be able to be on-call 24 hours a day from November to April.
- Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. with assistance.
- Must be able to work up to 8 hours outside bending, stooping, digging, kneeling, using a shovel or other tools.
- 24 hour on-call availability is required from November to April.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
