SALARY : $70,000-$75,000

ABOUT AAFSC :

The Arab-American Family Support Center (AAFSC) is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization established in 1994 to provide culturally and linguistically competent, trauma-informed social services. Our mission is to empower immigrants and refugees with the tools they need to successfully acclimate to the world around them and become active participants in their communities. While our doors are open to all, AAFSC has developed cultural and linguistic expertise in serving members of NYC’s Arab, Middle Eastern, North African, and South Asian immigrant and refugee communities. AAFSC promotes mental and physical well-being and community power. We ensure families are knowledgeable about their rights and equipped to participate in civic society with confidence and security. We help prevent child abuse and work to end domestic- and gender-based violence. We provide the tools for learners of every age to succeed. Finally, we help lift up the voices and needs of under-represented communities and champion gender-, racial-, restorative-, and immigrant justice.

Job Summary :

The NYC Family Justice Centers (FJCs) are an initiative of the Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence to reduce barriers faced by survivors of domestic and gender-based violence (GBV). GBV can include intimate partner and family violence, elder abuse, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking.  The NYC Family Justice Centers are co‐located multidisciplinary service centers providing vital social services, civil legal, and criminal justice assistance for survivors of domestic and gender-based violence and their children—all under one roof.  Arab American Family Support Center is co-located at the FJCs and partners with the Mayor’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office, and other civil legal and community-based organizations to provide a safe and welcoming place for victims to receive various services.  AAFSCNY staff at the FJC provides crisis intervention, case management services, advocacy, information and referrals, and practical assistance to survivors, providing client-centered safety assessments and risk management plans.

The Program Manager will oversee the administration, direction, and management of Case Management services in strong collaboration and partnership with the ENDGBV / FJC administrative staff. They will :

  • Provide direct supervision to the case managers, high-risk case manager, gender-based violence specialist and economic empowerment and housing specialist to ensure such staff are providing client-centered, trauma informed services to clients.
  • Carry a small caseload of clients with complex system involvement.
  • In collaboration with ENDGBV / FJC administrative staff, support and cover the AAFSC city- contracted front-line staff as needed to ensure appropriate front-line coverage at the BKFJC and QFJC.
  • Develop strong relationships and liaise regularly with onsite partners to ensure strong collaboration amongst FJC partners with client consent.
  • Monitor the FJC client application (aka database) and ensure staff are inputting all appointments, including phone appointments, and clearing their queue in a timely manner.
  • In collaboration with ENDGBV, participate in outreach events in the community to raise awareness about domestic violence and the services offered at the FJCs.
  • Regularly participate in FJC partner meetings, including team meetings, specific collaboration meetings for program disciplines or role, and on-going trainings.
  • Conduct relevant trainings   for FJC on-site partners on best practices for case management and advocacy when needed.
  • Adhere to AAFSC and FJC confidentiality practices and protocols and AAFSC’s internal agency mandatory reporting policies including using best practices for disclosing such mandatory reporting policies to clients upon the initial assessment and supporting staff in complying with these protocols.
  • Support ENDGBV’s on-going efforts to solicit client feedback regarding FJC operations including notifying all clients of their opportunity to complete a client satisfaction survey after every FJC visit and encourage the case management staff to inform clients of this feedback option.
  • Send monthly reports to ENDGBV FJC administrative staff.
  • Always ensure appropriate coverage at the FJC, including days when the home agency’s holiday calendar does not coincide with the NYC Holiday Calendar (which is what the FJC operates by); and
  • Other tasks that enhance the mission of the FJCs, as mutually agreed upon by AAFSC and ENDGBV.

Other Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Participate in AAFSC and FJC meetings and internal and external training.
  • Remain updated on technical and professional knowledge by attending educational workshops, joining professional associations, building networks with fellow professionals, and reviewing industry publications.
  • Perform other duties assigned.
  • Background & Position Requirements :

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field with 3-5 years of relevant experience working with survivors of domestic and gender-based violence and 2-4 years of supervisory experience and program management or Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Social Work or related field and at least 3-5 years working with survivors of domestic and gender-based violence with 4-6 years of relevant supervisory experience and program management.
  • An understanding of the dynamics and complexities of domestic and gender-based violence, the complex systems that impact survivor’s lives, the effects of childhood and adult trauma on survivors and a demonstrated commitment to utilizing trauma-informed, client centered engagement and intervention practices with survivors of domestic and gender-based violence.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a calm and reassuring manner.
  • Strong written communication and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • U.S. Work Authorization required.
  • All prospective job candidates must meet screening requirements of both AAFSC and the Family Justice Centers, which may include a background check, finger printing and State Central Registry clearance.
