We the People of Detroit is dedicated to community coalition building and to the provision of resources that inform, train, and mobilize the citizens of Detroit and beyond to improve their quality of life. As a community-based grassroots organization, WPD aims to inform, educate, and empower Detroit residents on imperative issues surrounding civil rights, land, water, education, and the democratic process.
OVERVIEW OF ROLE
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable IT Support Specialist to join our dynamic team. This role is essential in providing technical assistance and support to our users, ensuring that all IT systems are functioning optimally. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of IT principles, to help us innovate and enhance our technological capabilities.
The IT Consultant and Support Specialist (ICSS) will cover three major focus areas of IT at We the People of Detroit: IT Services Liaison, Tech Support, and Project Support. The focus on IT Services Liaison is to provide support (hybrid) and coordination between We the People of Detroit’s operation’s team and our remote managed care IT service provider. The focus on tech support is to provide local tech support for We the People of Detroit. And the project support is to serve as advisor and/or implementer for various special projects and IT initiatives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide first-level support for hardware and software issues, troubleshooting problems efficiently.
- Assist users with system access, software installations, and configuration settings.
- Maintain and update IT documentation, including user manuals and troubleshooting guides.
- Monitor system performance and conduct regular maintenance checks to ensure optimal operation.
- Stay informed about the latest developments in technology.
- Provide informed recommendations for improvements.
- Train staff on new technologies and best practices for IT usage.
· Meet with the operations team monthly to outline and manage the current technology needs of WPD.
- Review help tickets created by WPD Team and analyze the MPS resolutions
- Coordinate or perform onsite tasks while working with Tech Impact tech team
- Work with Tech Impact Account Manager and WPD to:
o Create and implement a technology plan
- Repair and support services onsite and/or remote (via phone, email)
- Assist in process creation, documentation, and adoption
- Research and Develop Specs for Purchase in deployment of Hardware/Software
- Serve as liaison for IT related programs and initiatives
o Examples: Water PEEPs, Blue Water Tech Hubs, We the Youth of Detroit, and more
- IT Administrative Support
o Assess current technology landscape
o Periodically analyze the use of existing equipment.
o Keep accurate account of IT inventory
- Oversee the life-cycle of IT assets and accounts (acquisition/creation, modification, decommissions/disposal)
- Maintain disbursement and retrieval of assets for offboarding/onboarding
of WPD Staff/Contractors
- Provide information technology training opportunities for current and new WPD team members
Qualifications
- Proven experience in an IT support role or similar position.
- Strong knowledge of computer systems, mobile devices, and other technology.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with a focus on customer service.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Schedule
- 15-25 hours per
- Weekdays and some weekends
Education & Technical Skills
- Associates or Bachelors Degree
- Minimum 3-5 years of the following:
o Administering Microsoft 365 users AND services, or similar cloud platforms
o Computer and mobile device end-user support
o Managing IT assets and projects
- Strong written and oral communication
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects
- Agility to adapt to changing priorities
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to work some weekends as needed and non-business hours (within weekly hours)
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, when needed
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with grassroot organizations
- Understanding of frequently used technologies, databases, applications and systems used by non-profits.
- Understanding of common technologies used by non-profits
- Knowledge/experience working with the following:
o Microsoft Office 365
o Windows 11 Pro
o Adobe Acrobat Pro
o Defender
o MFA (Mulit-Factor Authentication)
