Academic Advising is a crucial component in fostering the success and persistence of postsecondary students. This full-time position will provide one-on-one and group academic advising, as well as exemplary customer service, to students at Arapahoe Community College, with a particular focus on those entering and enrolled in Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Online programs. The Academic Advisor will collaborate with students to navigate critical decisions about their futures, taking a holistic approach to ensure they feel fully supported throughout their educational journey. This role is central to the College's initiatives around student success, retention, and graduation by building caring, responsive relationships that meet students’ unique needs. The Academic Advisor will advocate for student achievement, encourage exploration of personal strengths and career goals, and provide continuous guidance to ensure student success. Responsibilities include assisting students in selecting and completing CTE programs that align with their career aspirations, addressing the unique challenges of nontraditional students such as flexibility, time management, and balancing work, school, and life responsibilities, and supporting students in transitioning to the workforce or pursuing further education. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Two years of academic advising or related student affairs experience in an educational setting.Ability to interact and develop relationships with individuals of varying social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with other staff members and students and administrators and be able to be productive in time sensitive and at times, high-pressured situations.Knowledge of Microsoft office suite.Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree, preferably in Education or a field of study that enhances the individual’s ability to assist at-risk students in an academic environment.Two years experience in community college or other higher education advising.Experience advising students in developmental education courses.Experience as a classroom teacher in a higher education setting.Experience developing retention efforts targeting students who are on academic probation, suspension, or a similar standing.Experience with student success initiatives such as involvement and/or teaching in a FYE experience program, group orientations, and bridge programs. Knowledge of EAB Navigate and Banner.
