The Director of Disability Access Services (DAS) plays an instrumental role in ensuring students have the accommodations they need by interpreting and applying the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and our college’s policies. In this role, you will partner with Academic Advising, Admissions, Student Life, Instructional Technology, Testing Services, and Academic Affairs, to help our students with disabilities thrive. Additionally, the Director collaborates on improving campus access and promoting equity to address any gaps. The responsibilities of this job include the following: Provide information to prospective students and parents about services provided and disability documentation requirements and respond to public inquiries. Assess assistive-technology and adaptive equipment needs and collaborate with IT for support, and with Institutional Effectiveness in seeking grants and additional funding for programs and equipment.Conduct research on similar institutions and current best practices to develop future initiatives to proactively support students. Evaluate effectiveness of services through a variety of survey, research and assessment methods. Develop proactive measures to monitor and track student performance.Lead the DAS team and ensure effective case management.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Required: Master's Degree in Counseling, Special Education, Psychology, Sociology, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or related field.Three years of experience in the higher education setting leading or providing accommodations for students with disabilities.Case management or advising experience.Experience in effective management and supervision; skilled in management through motivation and developing employees.Preferred: Experience working in the community college setting.Knowledge of currently available assistive technology. Experience working with inclusive higher education programs or experience working with students with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the higher education setting.Bilingual: English-Spanish or American Sign Language.
