Job Summary: This position is responsible for management and oversight of the grief support service activity of Arbor Hospice and serves as the liaison between Grief Support Services clinical staff for all and administration, facilitating the exchange of needs, perspectives, and requests.
Essential Functions:
- Serves as the primary point of contact to the AVP, Grief Support for information and activities related to NorthStar Care Community (NSCC) Grief Support Department, Arbor Hospice Team.
- May disseminate information related to policy and process changes to Grief Support Services Managers.
- Guides Grief Support Services Managers in quarterly grief support programming.
- Coordinates holiday scheduling of Grief Support Service staff.
- Coordinates field and Grief Support Services on-call demands, as they arise.
- Schedules and plans the monthly discipline meeting; prepares agenda/prepare notes/distributes to attendees.
- May provide communication or information to internal staff or external agencies regarding the grief support discipline for volunteer training, organizational programs, community needs, or other events.
- Assists the AVP of Grief Support with statewide tasks as assigned.
- May work with the NorthStar Institute to assist in coordinating student learning opportunities with higher education institutions.
- Carries a reduced caseload.
- May assist in training new Grief Support staff.
- May serve as spokesperson, or assist in acquiring a designee, for external and internal requests related to fundraising, public relations, or marketing.
- Successfully accomplishes all duties as described in the Grief Support Services Manager job description, including documentation and productivity standards.
- Serves as a role model to staff and demonstrates leadership qualities.
- Promotes and models the Mission, Vision, and Values of the organization.
- Actively contributes to the mission outreach related to grief and loss.
- Adheres to organizational Code of Conduct, policies, procedures, protocols, processes and all regulatory and legal requirements.
- Adheres to the NorthStar standards to care for every person, every time, 100% of the time.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree required. Preference will be given to Social Workers with State of Michigan LMSW license. Formal education and experience in guidance and counseling is required; various combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Three to five (3 to 5) years of hospice experience required.
- Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Must demonstrate knowledge of behavioral and psychological stages of adults, children and teens, in order to facilitate the grief process with all persons.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and conduct grief support groups.
- Must be able to cope with family/caregiver emotional stress, cultural diversity and be non-judgmental of individual life-styles.
- Must be highly motivated and willing to take a creative approach to work and have a desire to be a part of team.
- All qualifications for Grief Support Services Manager position must be met.
- Must write, speak and comprehend English to effectively communicate with patients, staff and others.
- The physical demands of the position include: vision, effective speech and hearing for extensive telephone contact; repetitive motion; traveling; driving or riding in motor vehicle; standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, and stretching; lifting up to forty-five (45) pounds unassisted and the ability to assist in lifting patients using appropriate lifting techniques and/or devices.
- Proof of tuberculin testing having been performed within one year required. Patient/family contact not allowed until tuberculin clearance is documented.
- Must operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner and maintain a valid driver's license.
