SUMMARY

A non-exempt position, under general direction, performs various semi-routine assignments exercising care and using reasonable judgment, making minor decisions within areas that may cause confusion.  Counsels individuals and provides group educational and vocational guidance services by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Responsible for transporting consumers to and from special events, job site locations, and assigned evacuation areas as necessary. Will assist consumers into and out of vehicles.
  2. Train consumers in Self-Help- personal care, organization, and communication. Meal Assistance - eating, drinking. Health Care - encourage participation in physical activities, including, but not limited to, games sports, and exercise unless contraindicated by the medical assessment specified in the manual of policies and procedures, Community Care Licensing Division. Personal Care - toileting, dressing, grooming. Behavior - behavior management (physical and/or verbal aggression) and vocational skills. Wellbeing – social skills, communication, leisure time. Will work with consumers toward meeting these goals.
  3. Responsible for maintaining and submitting daily/weekly/quarterly data on consumers. Data to consist of: daily worksheets, progress notes, performance of individual program plans, goals and objectives.
  4. Supervise and observe consumers and maintain safe conditions, prevent elopement.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  2. Set-up work area and prepare materials as needed for training.  
  3. Keeping room or area assigned in a neat, clean and orderly condition.
  4. Will be responsible to participate in the in-service training program:  perform some general Maintenance of the center's materials and equipment.
  5. Answer the telephone in a pleasant manner; take accurate and timely messages. 
  6. Knowledgeable with the description of all materials and equipment used in the work stations. 
  7. Adhere to the center's storage and maintenance procedures.
  8. Promote a better, more cooperative working atmosphere by maintaining a safe, hazard-free work environment, and adhering to CAL OSHA and ADA requirements. Following all regulations for safety as required by the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP).
  9. Follow ARC Imperial Valley personnel policies closely. 
  10. Foster cooperative staff relationships and effective teamwork.
  11. Shall maintain a harmonious, pleasant, and positive work environment by following established standards for undesirable conduct, including but not limited to discrimination, sexual harassment, and alcohol/substance abuse.
  12. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods or otherwise to balance the workload, as assigned by the Director of the Adult Development Center and Transition Unit or Executive Director.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS:  To successfully perform this job, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

RBT Certification (preferred)

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures manuals. 

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 

Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Bi-lingual skills preferred.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. 

Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions.

Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSED, REGISTRATIONS:

Must have a current California Driver’s License; clean DMV record

Ability to receive clearance from a Live Scan background check.

Ability to receive and maintain a current CPR/First Aid certification
