Job Description
Administers and supervises the health care component of Camp Hope to ensure a safe and enjoyable camp experience to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in accordance with the guidelines set forth by The Arc of Essex County, Department of Human Services/Division of Developmental Disabilities,and under supervision of the Camp Manager/Director, Children and Family Services, by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
- Accomplishes pre-camp responsibilities to include but not be limited to the following: participates in administrative planning meetings for camp pre-service training, review of camper and staff medical forms and files, and ensure first aid station readiness.
- Administers and supervises medication and first aid to campers and staff per camp and agency policy.
- Maintains camper and staff medical records and log book on a daily basis.
- Maintains and documents written and phone communication with parents and medical professionals on an as needed basis.
- Maintains the security of medication and medical records.
- Compiles daily absentee records for review by Camp
Manager/Director, Children and Family Services - Documents and communicates any medically oriented event according to agency policy and procedure.
- Supervises camp health policies and trains staff as needed.
- Conducts informal safety surveys of camp property, equipment and camper activities and generates appropriate recommendations to the Camp Director.
- Maintains the first aid station according to health and safety standards and keeps inventory and supply needs updated.
- Performs any other responsibilities which are directly or indirectly related to the well-being of the campers and which are suggested by The Arc of Essex County administration.
Qualifications
Associates Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or New Jersey Registered Nurse License, or at least three years of experience managing/assessing medical needs of children and adults and prior experience with individuals with developmental disabilities in an educational and/or camp setting is preferred.
