Description
The Summer Camp Nurse is vital to ensuring the health and safety of campers and staff. Working closely with camp leadership, the nurse is responsible for health assessments, first aid, medication management, and record-keeping for children ages three through thirteen. The position runs full-time from June 16 - August 8, with support from the Lead Camp Nurse in a private, well-equipped health office.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
- Provides health care and first aid to campers and staff
- Follows camp health policies and procedures
- Organizes and maintains resources for medical needs
- Tracks medical supplies and equipment inventory
- Maintains accurate medical records, including allergies and conditions, using the camp database
- Ensures current health exams are on file for campers
- Prepares daily medical logs for treatments and medications
- Distributes first-aid backpacks to all camp teachers
- Monitors supply levels and ensures they remain stocked
- Identifies signs of illness or communicable diseases
- Conducts health assessments
- Secures all camper medications in the health office
- Establishes and maintains family communication, as necessary
- Stays informed about local health resources
Other General Camp Responsibilities:
- Attends and assists with the Health Care Office session during Summer Camp Staff Orientation
Requirements

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, disposition, and/or ability required to perform essential functions of the job:
- RN License
- Current BLS
- At least 2 years working as a registered nurse
- Ability to use effective communication and personal skills
- Experience in both children and adult illness/injury care
- Desire to work with children and young adults
- Community health knowledge
- Health assessment
- Ability to prioritize care
- Medication management
- Ability to communicate with families, staff, and administration about camper health issues or concerns
- Has experience and proficiency using Google Workspace and a willingness to learn the camp platform, UltraCamp
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
- Experience with safety and crisis management
- Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills; speaks professionally and thoughtfully to camp families at all times
- Demonstrates an ability to work collaboratively bringing a positive attitude and sense of humor even during stressful situations
- Maintains ongoing evaluation process of camp programs, staff, site, and facilities and makes recommendations for improvements
The Summer Camp Nurse is a single summer position, with the option thereafter to renew on a year-by-year basis.
Salary : $36 - $42
