Job Description:
Under the direct supervision of the site principal and with support from district personnel, the instructor serving in this position will provide an educational program for preschool students with autism who require intensive instruction. The program will be specifically designed, based upon each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP), and will utilize research-based practices in the field of autism to meet the needs of each student.
The instructor develops daily lesson plans for the class and for students, based on individual needs, to help them access preschool activities. The instructor provides individual and small group instruction consistent with the Individualized Education Program (IEP) of each student; develops and implements a classroom positive behavior support program based on the principles of applied behavior analysis; provides a classroom environment that facilitates the students’ progress toward learning appropriate preschool activities and social skills; develops appropriate goals and objectives based on assessment and observational data; and participates with the IEP team in planning an individualized education program for each student.
Requirements:
Evidence of successful teaching of students with disabilities in a special education or supervised training assignment. Basic knowledge of research-based teaching methodologies in instruction of preschoolers with autism (e.g. PECS, structured teaching, discrete trial teaching, development of play skills); professional knowledge of the behavioral characteristics of autism and methods of communicating with and instructing students; knowledge of early childhood development; and the ability to collaborate and work with members of the education team and parents.
Salary : $76,742 - $152,165
