Position Summary
The Assistant Vice President is responsible for managing and mentoring a team responsible for the management and accounting/financial reporting related to the Travel and Accident & Disability business units.
This role has both a management component together with a great deal of hands-on responsibilities for the day-to-day activities of the group. This individual will have a high level of interaction with operating executives, officers, and other members of the finance teams throughout the organization. This position will be required to improve and add value to the financial reporting process, manage timeframes and deliverables, while maintaining the highest levels of accuracy. This person will also be responsible for the training and performance evaluations for direct reports.

Responsibilities And Accountabilities
- Manage the quarterly close process, including premium, loss, acquisition costs, preparation of Profit and Loss reporting, Balance Sheet Reconciliations, MD&A’s, and all other financial information used by the company in managing and analyzing our books of business.
- Manage a team of two onshore resources and oversight of three offshore resources
- Work closely with other departments to ensure set-up of current and new business activities is accurate and efficient
- Take part in special projects, including testing and implementation of new systems, process improvements (including early close issue) and data quality initiatives
- Will have extensive interaction with various departments/disciplines at the group, including other areas in finance, actuarial, legal, reinsurance, claims and IT
- Demonstrated leadership, people management and developmental skills
- Dynamic and motivated individual, capable of handling complex structured tasks that require close attention to timing and detail, as well as unplanned projects and challenges that require effective and unique solutions, often in a compressed timeframe
- Experience with and exposure to various operational disciplines (actuarial, underwriting, claims, IT, etc.)
- Experience managing finance and accounting data
- Ability to effectively communicate analysis and conclusions to financial information end-users
- Hands-on experience and strong aptitude with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Power BI, Workday
- Exceptional communication (written and verbal), evaluating, influencing, negotiating, listening, and interpersonal skills to effectively develop productive working relationships with internal/external peers and other professionals across organizational lines
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, analytical, organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills
- Ability to analyze, organize, and present information in a clear and succinct manner
- Ability to take part in active strategic discussions
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Experience with Travel, Accident and Disability products is a plus
- Certified Public Accountant or Chartered Accountant is a plus
- CPCU or other Insurance designations is a plus
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting
- Seven to ten years of property and casualty insurance industry experience, including statutory accounting experience
$123,600 - $166,900/year
- Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
