SUMMARY
The CNC Machinist Lead will be responsible for maintaining safety, quality and operational goals while optimizing efficiency and effectiveness, providing technical assistance, set-up communication and daily support to the team.
Primary Responsibilities
- Programs, sets-up, and operates CNC machines in a safe and efficient manner.
- Uses inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, CMM to validate tolerances.
- Monitors levels of production in the department, shift output per machine, labor performance, scraps and rejects, and housekeeping.
- Assist with assigning jobs and machines to team members in their area and shifts.
- Responsible for reporting any production, safety, quality issues to the supervisor.
- Answers questions and leads team members.
- Responsible for the training and development of team members in their department/shift including shadowing and coaching.
- Leads team members in the promotion and integration of new ideas and process improvements; promotes safety and quality.
- Familiarizes himself/herself with the department metrics and contributes to achieving daily/weekly/monthly targets.
- Performs positive and effective shift turnover and hand off to achieve expected results by communicating effectively.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; a technical college degree is strongly preferred.
- At least 5 years of CNC machine programming, operating and set-up experience (CNC Swiss & Turning, CNC Milling machines) or any combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated capability to lead in set-up and manufacture of complicated tight tolerance components and assemblies.
- Knowledge of the medical device manufacturing industry.
- Knowledge of G-codes and M-codes and MasterCam programming.
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5M.
- Experience with machining of various materials: stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, etc.
- Proven leadership and effective communication skills.
- Working knowledge of ERP (Epicor strongly preferred), Microsoft Office.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft office and its applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, ect), e-mail, communication platforms (Zoom, Teams). Knowledge of manufacturing software and ERP systems (EPICOR is strongly preferred). MasterCam knowledge.
Managing Responsibilities
May have some direct reports and supervisory responsibilities.
Direct Reports may be amended at any time at the sole discretion of the company based on business needs and org. structure changes.
Work Environment
This position is required to work around high-speed machinery and equipment and requires the use of safety glasses. The work environment of this position is generally performed in an indoor environment (at times in confined spaces) in a well-lit and ventilated area. There is exposure to machine oil, metal filings, and noise. Job functions on and around mechanized equipment will present the need for alertness, accuracy, and safety awareness.

Ability to regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.
