Job Summary
The School Nurse will provide direct healthcare services, support health education, and collaborate with school administrators, faculty, and parents to create a safe and nurturing environment for all students.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide direct nursing care to students, faculty, and staff, including first aid, emergency care, and medication administration.
Assess and manage acute and chronic health conditions, ensuring appropriate interventions and follow-up.
Maintain accurate and confidential student health records, including immunization compliance, health screenings, and medication logs.
Develop and implement individualized care plans (ICPs) for students with chronic illnesses or special health needs.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health regulations, as well as school policies.
Collaborate with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators to develop and implement strategies that support student health and well-being.
Conduct health screenings, including vision, hearing, and scoliosis evaluations, as needed.
Educate students and staff on health-related topics such as hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention.
Monitor and manage communicable diseases, providing appropriate notifications and guidance in accordance with public health guidelines.
Serve as a health resource and advocate for the school community, promoting a culture of wellness and safety.
Coordinate and oversee emergency response protocols, including staff training and drills.
Maintain inventory and proper storage of medical supplies and equipment.
Supervision & Scheduling:
Manage the health office, ensuring that it operates smoothly and efficiently.
Coordinate and supervise any necessary health-related events, screenings, or programs.
Maintain regular communication with the Principal and Office of Student Life regarding student health matters.
Qualifications:
Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the District of Columbia.
Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in a school or pediatric setting.
Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to emergencies.
Familiarity with student health documentation platforms and medical record-keeping systems.
