Job Summary
The Building Maintenance Specialist will be responsible for the effective, efficient, and safe maintenance, renovation, and upkeep of the parish buildings, property, and equipment. This includes plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems, as well as carpentry and other crafts. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of these systems and be able to troubleshoot and complete minor repairs.

The Building Maintenance Specialist will be responsible for the effective, efficient, and safe maintenance, renovation, and upkeep of the parish buildings, property, and equipment. This includes plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems, as well as carpentry and other crafts. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of these systems and be able to troubleshoot and complete minor repairs.
Key Responsibilities
- Unlock all doors and turn on building lights as needed.
- Operate boiler and air conditioning units, ensuring licenses are up to date.
- Regularly inspect and maintain fire suppression equipment.
- Order building and maintenance supplies.
- Maintain a regular cleaning schedule for outside areas, including windows and parish grounds.
- Clear snow and ice from sidewalks and building entrances in winter.
- Accept freight deliveries and notify staff.
- Remove trash from non-classroom and non-office areas.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance to the parish rectory.
- Troubleshoot and complete minor plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and other repairs.
- Investigate and troubleshoot heating and cooling issues.
- Check and repair lights in all buildings.
- Complete paint jobs and maintain a listing of paint used.
- Remove debris from roof drains and gutters.
- Facilitate annual fire extinguisher inspections.
- Install new light fixtures, paint, and plaster.
- Clean downspouts.
- Complete essential maintenance and custodial requests.
- Set up tables and chairs for church and school activities.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive preventive maintenance schedule.
- Work with outside contractors to facilitate repairs.
- Arrange for building repairs and maintenance.
- Be on-call for emergency situations.
- Maintain productive relationships with CGS faculty and staff.
- Knowledge and experience in plumbing, electrical repairs, and HVAC systems.
- Strong organizational skills and self-motivation.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of computer software, including email, word processing, and spreadsheets.
- Valid driver's license.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- 3-5 years of work experience in operations and maintenance of commercial facilities preferred.
- Criminal background check required.
- Asbestos Awareness & Designated Person Training and blood borne pathogens training required.
- Protecting God's Children Certificate from the Archdiocese of Detroit required.
