Summary/objective:
The Graphic Designer at the Archdiocese of Detroit will support the mission of the Catholic Church in southeast Michigan by creating engaging visual content for various projects. This on-site role involves designing materials for social media, newsletters, worship aids, and marketing campaigns. The designer will work closely with the Content and Editorial Manager and other department leaders to ensure all designs align with brand standards and effectively communicate the Church’s mission.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Create high-quality graphics creation for digital and printed materials.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders and provide management of projects by:
- Working with department leaders and stakeholders to understand needs and execute design projects to achieve strategic objectives
- Participating in brainstorming sessions and offer suggestions to design stakeholders
- Incorporating feedback to ensure final output meets client needs
- Managing multiple timelines and deadlines for 8-10 projects per week
- Directing and managing freelance designers as needed, overseeing production process
- Managing relationships with printers and external vendors as needed
- Provide creative direction and adhere to the AOD brand by:
- Helping to develop, maintain, and communicate a cohesive brand identity for the AOD
- Adhering to brand standards and guidelines in all design materials
- Adapting AOD’s brand identity to new mediums as needed
- Maintaining a professional and authentic Catholic brand voice in all communication
- Managing design and creative assets (digital and print files, logos, working files, etc.
- Assist with other communications department objectives by:
- Occasionally assisting with photography, video, and other visual assets
- Recommending appropriate design software and tools
- Maintaining confidentiality of priority design projects
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and other design software and tools.
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects at the same time.
- Exceptional design editing skills and the ability to provide constructive feedback to freelance designers
Education and Experience Requirements
- 5-7 years of design experience
- Professional experience within a large Catholic parish, school, or university or other non-profit organization a plus.
Travel Required
Occasional travel throughout the Archdiocese of Detroit
