Job Overview :

The Vice Principal, Academics at St. Charles Borromeo will be a dynamic educational leader dedicated to fostering an environment of academic excellence, spiritual growth, and student success. This position will work closely with the principal, school counselor, faculty, staff, and students to ensure the implementation of high-quality academic programs and the continuous improvement of educational practices. The Vice Principal, Academics will oversee academic programming, teacher performance, student success initiatives, and the resource room.

Key Responsibilities :

Teacher Observation & Professional Development :

Conduct regular classroom observations to assess teaching effectiveness and provide constructive feedback to faculty members.

Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement professional development plans focused on best practices, differentiated instruction, and the integration of Catholic values in teaching.

Support teachers in refining instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs, ensuring that academic standards are consistently met.

Foster a culture of continuous learning and reflection among faculty, with an emphasis on spiritual and academic growth.

Student Success & Academic Support :

In conjunction with the Resource Room teacher, oversee the development of individualized plans for students who need academic interventions or additional support, in line with Catholic teaching and inclusive practices.

Monitor and track student academic progress, ensuring that all students receive the support needed to thrive.

Collaborate with teachers, parents, and counselors to address student academic challenges and implement strategies for improvement.

Support the school’s efforts to integrate Catholic values into the academic experience, encouraging students to see education as both a spiritual and intellectual journey.

Academic Programming :

Assist in the planning, development, and review of the school's academic curriculum to ensure alignment with state or provincial standards, as well as Catholic educational goals.

Work with the principal and teachers to ensure that the curriculum reflects the mission of the Catholic school and meets the diverse needs of the student body.

Coordinate the integration of technology into academic programs, providing students and teachers with resources and tools that enhance learning and teaching.

Ensure the successful implementation of assessments, including standardized tests and other forms of student evaluation.

Resource Room Management :

Working with the Resource teacher, oversee the management of the resource room, ensuring it is a supportive and effective learning space for students who require additional academic assistance.

Manage and allocate resources, including staff and materials, to ensure students with learning differences or those requiring additional support are appropriately served.

Monitor the individualized learning plans for students utilizing the resource room and review their progress to ensure academic goals are met.

Support and mentor resource room staff, to help them provide a positive learning experience for all students.

Administrative & Leadership Responsibilities :

Serve as an active member of the school’s leadership team, contributing to the development of the school’s strategic direction and goals.

Assist the principal in school-wide planning and academic policy implementation.

Provide leadership during faculty meetings and school events, and represent the school in academic matters to the broader community.

Ensure the alignment of academic practices with the mission of the Catholic Church and the principles of Catholic education.

Collaboration with Parents & Community :

Foster open communication with parents regarding their children's academic progress and collaborate with them to support student success.

Organize and facilitate parent meetings, workshops, and other events aimed at promoting academic success, spiritual growth, and overall well-being of students.

Qualifications :

A Master's degree in Education, Administration, or a related field (preferred).

Current certification and licensure as an administrator and educator from Washington state's OSPI or other state agency.

Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership or administrative role.

Strong understanding of Catholic education and the ability to integrate faith and learning in the academic setting.

Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Proven ability to support diverse student populations and implement inclusive educational practices.

Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.

Salary : Pay at 90% of Tacoma Public Schools pay scale, one year in arrears.

Benefits : A comprehensive package of benefits is offered including two medical plan options, dental, vision, life, accidental death and disability, long term disability, pension, 403(b), HSA, FSA, and generous sick leave, vacation, and holidays.
