JOB SUMMARY
Manages overall activities of the Building Division and supervises the permitting and inspection of all building construction and the enforcement of building codes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Enforces the Building Resolution and all applicable codes. Assists staff and general public in the interpretation and application of building codes.
Develops and prepares for adoption new codes and changes to Building Resolution. Makes presentations to legislative body regarding proposed changes.
Assists with establishing policies that ensure conformity within the Building Department and other departments. Plans, coordinates, and supervises the operations and staff of the division to include scheduling, specifying procedures, equipment and manpower, planning short and long-range goals, and implementing work objectives. Assists in staff selection, evaluates their work performance, and instructs them on the policies, regulations and programs administered by the Building Department.
Directs the plan checking process and routes plans to all applicable departments for review and approval. Reviews and approves permits including valuation determinations, fees and refunds. Authorizes the expiration, suspension or revocation of permits.
Reviews and approves the issuance of certificates of occupancy.
Authorizes stop work order and occupancy violations.
Prepares the Building Division's annual budget for review by the Director of County Development Services.
Maintains master files on all permits and oversees the storage of all records and plans.
Organizes training seminars for staff, trains new inspectors.
Conducts follow-up inspections to be used in evaluation of inspectors' performances.
Reviews and approves daily inspections schedules. Assigns and reviews workload of staff.
Recommend disciplinary actions to Director. Performs other related duties as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES
Assists with reception of incoming telephone calls and with walk-in traffic as needed.
Interviews Building Inspector/Plans Examiner candidates and makes recommendations to Director of County Development.
Trains newly hired Building Inspector/Plans Examiners in the duties and responsibilities of the position. Provides training for all employees.
Provides performance evaluations for each employee under supervision. Approves employee leave requests.
Coordinates work with the Planning Division and other departments, as needed. Performs other duties as assigned and required.
Salary : $66,114 - $92,595
