The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and capable of maintaining confidentiality while handling complex payroll functions across multiple states. This position also reviews payroll processed by Payroll Coordinators prior to posting and serves as a backup to the Payroll Supervisor when needed. In addition to core responsibilities, the selected candidate will have the opportunity to cross-train with our Payroll Tax department, gaining valuable experience in payroll tax processing and filing activities.

A DAY IN THE LIFE
- Review and verify timesheets and payroll data for accuracy and completeness
- Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll for both hourly and salaried associates
- Calculate wages, overtime, bonuses, retroactive pay, and applicable deductions
- Ensure payroll compliance for specialized cases including union, certified, and prevailing wage requirements
- Process manual checks, including final checks when required
- Reconcile and approve payroll data submitted by Payroll Coordinators
- Identify, research, and resolve payroll discrepancies in coordination with the Payroll Supervisor
- Serve as the point of contact for payroll issues in the Supervisor’s absence
- Respond to and resolve payroll-related service tickets in a timely and professional manner
- Provides back-up support and guidance to Payroll Coordinators for all companies as needed
- Conduct internal audits to ensure accuracy in our system and provides results to Payroll Supervisor
- Assist with year-end payroll processes
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all employee payroll records and related information
- Participate in cross-training activities with the Payroll Tax department to support departmental collaboration and coverage
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Minimum of 10 years of full-cycle, multi-state payroll processing experience
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. payroll compliance, including federal and state taxation, wage and hour laws, and reciprocity agreements
- Strong analytical mindset with a focus on process improvement and payroll accuracy
- Proven ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment and balance competing payroll deadlines
- Familiarity with certified payroll, prevailing wage, union payroll, and wage garnishment regulations
- High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information
Preferred:
- Experience in the construction industry
- Proficiency in Vista by Viewpoint (or similar payroll software)
- Canadian payroll experience
- FPC or CPP certification
