This position is responsible for assisting with the recruiting and interviewing of workers and discussing personnel, human relations, and work-related problems that adversely affect morale, health, and productivity. This position also evaluates and resolves human relations, labor relations, and work-related problems, and meets with management to determine appropriate action. An Employee Relations Specialist explains and provides advice to workers about company and governmental rules, regulations, and procedures, and need for compliance.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Oversees the career development and internal recruiting efforts.
- Assists with external recruiting efforts, including maintaining relationships with schools, associations, and other recruiters. Represents the organization at selected job fairs.
- Assists management with performance concerns, disciplinary action, and conflict management issues.
- Administers the equal employment opportunity and anti-harassment and discrimination programs.
- Conducts stay interviews and exit interviews, summarizes findings, and discusses trends and concerns with senior management.
- Responsible for collecting and analyzing employee data, organizing, and updating employee files, and overseeing employee orientation and training.
- Participates in quality assurance activities.
- Maintains an attitude and philosophy consistent with the company’s standards.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, counseling, and negotiation skills.
- Thorough understanding of recruiting methods and best practices, as well as applicable policies and federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Expert knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity and affirmative action requirements.
- Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree, preferably in human resource management or related field or equivalent combination of education, training and experience, desired but not required.
- Two to three years of experience in a position of responsibility and leadership or supervisory duties.
- SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) credential is a plus, but not required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of walking the production floor.
- Some periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Ability to deal with stress associated with meeting multiple deadlines and demands.
Work Environment:
Working conditions are normal for a logistics/distribution center/warehouse, automotive manufacturing plant environment including exposure to changing building temperatures.
