Job Overview: The Assistant Day Camp Director plays a crucial role in assisting the Camp Director with the planning, organizing, and overseeing of day camp operations. This position involves supervising camp staff, ensuring the safety and well-being of campers, and maintaining a positive and engaging camp environment. The Assistant Day Camp Director collaborates closely with the Camp Director to execute the camp's mission and uphold its standards.
Responsibilities:
Program Management:
- Assist in the development and implementation of daily camp schedules and activities.
- Plan and coordinate age-appropriate recreational, educational, and team-building activities.
- Ensure the camp's programs align with the camp's mission and goals.
- Monitor program effectiveness and make improvements as needed.
- Staff Supervision:
- Support the hiring, training, and orientation of camp staff members.
- Provide guidance and support to staff throughout the camp season.
- Assist in conducting staff evaluations and addressing performance issues.
- Promote a positive and inclusive camp culture among staff members.
- Camper Safety and Well-being:
- Collaborate with the Camp Director to establish and enforce safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure campers are supervised at all times during activities and while on camp premises.
- Respond to camper needs, concerns, and emergencies in a caring and timely manner.
- Implement appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary, following camp guidelines.
Communication:
- Maintain effective communication with parents/guardians regarding camp updates and camper progress.
- Provide timely and informative reports to the Camp Director about camp operations and incidents.
- Communicate with camp staff to ensure they are informed about schedule changes and other important information
- Administrative Duties:
- Assist in managing camp registration, attendance records, and camper information.
- Maintain necessary camp supplies and equipment.
- Camper Engagement and Inclusion:
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment where all campers feel welcome and valued.
- Encourage camper participation and engagement in activities.
- Address any camper conflicts or concerns promptly and sensitively.
Qualifications:
- At least two years of college or equivalent is preferred. College graduates are strongly preferred.
- Previous experience working in a camp setting or youth programs.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work well under pressure and handle unexpected situations.
- First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate activities.
- Comfortable with being exposed to wet, humid, and hot/very hot conditions.
- Available for the entire duration of the summer program.
Job Type: Part-time
